NYDESIGNS OPERATIONS MANAGER

Founded in 2006, NYDesigns is dedicated to the success of design and hardware tech startups in NYC.

Companies in our incubator get three years of private studio space and access to a network of mentors

and advisers. Makers can prototype their design ideas in our safe, secure, 5,000-sq-ft fabrication lab. We

produce events and programs for a thriving community of creators and innovators.

NYDesigns seeks an Operations Manager to lead the creation and implementation of systems and

solutions to improve the performance and efficiency of NYDesigns’ program operations. A key member of

NYDesigns’ decision-making team, the Operations Manager will provide the management team with critical

information to support the development of strategic goals and initiatives. Acting as a liaison between the

management team and the rest of the team, the Operations Manager will then translate these strategic

goals into practicable action plans and processes and oversee their implementation by the rest of the

NYDesigns team.

Key Responsibilities

Systems Management:

● Build, implement, and refine systems to increase the effectiveness of NYDesigns’ internal

operations and incubator programs, including client selection, client onboarding and offboarding,

and reporting

● Establish a system for tracking and articulating the value that NYDesigns brings to its clients (i.e.,

clients’ business growth metrics) in order to satisfy stakeholders and to help make business

decisions, and oversee the data management process

● Generate reports on clients’ growth metrics for LaGuardia administrators

● Establish and enforce internal and program policies and procedures that satisfy NYDesigns’,

LaGuardia’s, and sponsors’ objectives

● Work actively with the team to identify and understand issues or deficiencies that emerge and

apply these assessments toward continuous improvements in programs and operations

Program Management:

● Oversee and, as needed, lead the implementation of incubator programs, including business

support programs, to ensure that they satisfy clients’ needs and advance NYDesigns’ mission

● Support Strategist in Residence fulfill his/her growth plan for NYDesigns’ client companies by

connecting them with customized business growth resources and networks, such as business

advisers, talent, and technical assistance from partners

o Recruit and onboard experts to network of pro bono advisers

o Manage pipeline programs to connect NYDesigns’ clients with CUNY students to fill

o Schedule clients’ quarterly review meetings and meetings with pro bono advisers

● Oversee the Capital One Entrepreneurship Program – a biannual, 11-week business training

program for LaGuardia students – and ensure successful achievement of program and sponsor

goals in collaboration with the program coordinator

Client Relations:

● Serve as primary point of contact for all clients

● Regularly interface with clients to collect feedback about their experience and their business

growth, milestones, press, etc.

● Work closely with Client Services Manager to ensure effective resolution of clients’ inquiries and

complaints to foster a seamless client experience

Communications:

● Write and edit content for internal and external communications related to NYDesigns and its

programs.

● Work with 3rd party service providers to manage marketing content and all external

communications, e.g. Social Media, Website, marketing materials, newsletters, event invitations

and materials

Grant Reporting:

● Support the fulfillment of grant-funded project milestones and alignment with internal and sponsor

goals by creating action plans for the team and documenting and tracking activities and milestones

● Communicate project outputs to funders through data-driven reports

Qualifications

● Bachelor’s degree, preferably with coursework in business administration, economics, statistics,

and/or entrepreneurship

● 2-5 years of experience in a customer support, operations, project management, or consulting role

● Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to develop and maintain client

relationships

● Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at once and handle

complex situations

● Meticulous attention to detail and problem-solving ability

● Grant­writing experience a plus

Position Details

This is a full-time position with an excellent benefits package. Salary commensurate with experience. The

position is based at NYDesigns at LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City, Queens.
