Data & Society is seeking a part-time technologist to start immediately on a short-term project focused on technology and innovation in mobile health.

Data & Society [http://www.datasociety.net] is an NYC-based research institute dedicated to addressing social, technical, ethical, legal, and policy issues that are emerging because of data-centric technological development. D&S brings together researchers, entrepreneurs, activists, policy creators, journalists, geeks, and public intellectuals to gather, debate, and engage one another on the key issues introduced by the increasing availability of data in society._

*The Job*

The technologist will support a Data & Society research fellow who is conducting a project to understand and evaluate health technologies. More specifically, the technologist will participate in user research and interviews to provide insight and understanding into new mobile products within the healthcare industry.

Required skills/experience:

– Social data analysis of Twitter and Facebook

– Twitter API

– Web scraping

– Proficiency in Python

– Natural Language Processing

– Understanding of connected devices

– Good communication skills

– Experience working in a deadline driven environment

This position is ideal for a current Master’s student. Opportunities to take on additional research responsibilities will be based on experience. While enthusiasm about the research topic is not a requirement, candidates who are passionate about issues at the intersection of health technology, society, and policy in a data-driven world will find this work more rewarding and interesting.

*Practical Considerations*

– Hourly pay is up to $20.00 depending on level of experience.

– You must be able to commit to 10 hours of work per week.

– Position is March-June with option to extend to August.

– You must be eligible to work in the United States.
