globalization’s implications for precollegiate education and develops and provides

curriculum resources and mentoring to Ross School, which operates as Ross Institute’s

lab school, and to schools around the world interested in adopting the Ross model.

INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER FOR ONLINE COURSES

Ross Institute seeks an Instructional Designer to lead content development of a suite of

innovative online professional development courses for K–12 teachers. This individual

will develop content and architect the user experience, applying their expertise in

instructional design and adult learning theory.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Chief Academic Officer and working closely with the RLS Project

Director, Director of Academics, Academic Team, and Faculty, the Instructional Designer

has the following essential duties and responsibilities:

● Collaborate with Ross internal teams (academic content / writers, video

production, graphic design and technology) to develop schedule and identify

project milestones / deliverables

● Collaborate with UX designer on defining detailed functionality

● Work with subject matter experts to develop content including overseeing

● Identify/incorporate or develop appropriate learning activities/exercises

● Determines best presentation approach such as instructor-led,

● Collaborate on design and development of online, web-based and

script writing process

needed to enable learners to achieve learning objectives (e.g., delivery

timeframes, durations, techniques)

self-evaluations and assessments to ensure effectiveness of programs, and

recommending / implementing modifications as necessary

● Analyze learning situations, assessing teaching style(s) and student audience

and apply appropriate learning theory, instructional design theory, and/or

technology to instructional design

● Maintain and develop course templates, models, standards and procedures

● Storyboard content for course creation and video production

● Test concepts, perform task and user analysis, and assist with user

● Generate user guides, online help, and technical documentation

● Work closely with Ross Technology on backend delivery plan / budgeting

● Work closely with Ross Communications to ensure aesthetic is consistent

● Explore application and effectiveness of new training

technologies/methodologies to enhance course instruction

● Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline with at least 5 years of experience in

nonprofit or educational sector.

● Expert understanding of instructional design theory, online learning systems, best

practices and current research / theory in adult online learning

● Expert communication skills: written, verbal and presentation

● Expert knowledge of technical programs and resources utilized in e-learning

creation, such as video, animation, music, voice recording, etc.

● Experience developing interactive, innovative online courses (portfolio required)

● Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator or other storyboarding

● Self-directed and capable of working in a fast-paced environment

● Thoughtful and creative under pressure; able to represent institutional

perspectives, mission, and objectives.

● Collaborative work style, sense of humor, and belief in possibilities.

● Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Mandarin an asset.

travel between both locations on a weekly basis, as needed.
