Their studio in downtown Manhattan is airy, roomy and inspires collaboration and creativity, with fully stocked kitchen, large video viewing area, and playfully themed conference rooms – their commitment to their thoughtful culture is evident throughout their space and style. You’ll be empowered to mentor, manage, and grow their team of 10+ designers (UX design and research, UI, motion, and possibly marketing, if that’s of interest), and to re-envision the design thinking and process in collaboration with company leadership.
What you’ll do:
– Define and drive the UX and product design vision and strategy across their ecosystem of web, mobile and tablet products
– Collaborate with product and engineering leaders throughout the company
– Head up their 10 person design team (and growing) in all their diverse design glory: UX (including design and research), UI, video/motion, and (possibly) marketing designers
– Establish / refine design thinking and process improvements throughout the company culture
– Evolve design process in collaboration with product and dev leadership
What you’ve done / requirements:
– You have 2+ years min experience as a design leader at a consumer digital product company (both mobile and web), with a rapidly moving iterative design approach, and 5-7+ years overall experience working at product-side companies
– You’ve taken a new consumer product to market
– Strong background in UX
– Experience growing a design team; hiring, firing, mentoring and managing a team of at least 8 direct reports.
– You have utilized diverse product development lifecycle methodologies, have a POV on what works where, and know how to tailor different approaches to different organizations (not a “one-size-fits-all” approach)
– You’re a “player coach” – you’re an astute manager and delegator, but have formidable UX / product design chops and can dive into the details as needed
– Preferably, you’ve got a proven track record of attracting design talent – you ideally have a public profile, speak at conferences, blog, etc – you have a bit of a following / reputation in the field – or, you’re on your way / this appeals to you!
Like-to haves:
– Start-up experience strongly preferred, brand/marketing exposure a plus but definitely not required
– Love of video and/or photography a definite +
