Position Summary
Adjunct Teaching Associates (part-time) at IMA provide comprehensive support to students in both foundation and capstone courses. They deliver academic guidance, technical assistance, and creative mentorship through structured recitations, regular office hours, studio sessions, and specialized help sessions. They also manage logistical and administrative aspects of these courses, ensuring smooth operation throughout the academic year.
Beyond the classroom, Adjunct Teaching Associates play a vital role in maintaining IMA’s technical infrastructure and contributing to its scholarly community. Their responsibilities include organizing and supporting departmental events (workshops, exhibitions, guest lectures, the IMA Show, and Capstone Show), maintaining digital resources (websites and databases), and developing support systems that enhance student learning. Adjunct Teaching Associates also help strengthen the department’s external connections by fostering relationships with museums and emerging media organizations in Shanghai and internationally, and by supporting research funding initiatives.
As emerging professionals in the field, Adjunct Teaching Associates are encouraged to pursue their own creative and research interests while at IMA. With access to departmental facilities and mentorship from full-time faculty, they can engage in traditional research, artistic creation, community-building projects, software development, curriculum enhancement, accessibility innovations, or social practice work. This self-directed professional development component enhances both the Adjunct Teaching Associate’s career trajectory and the intellectual vitality of the IMA community.
