Elementary Teaching, Coding and Making Opportunity for ITP Students

Want some direct experience teaching design, coding, and making with elementary-school children at a wonderful downtown school near NYU? Judith Seidel, the Lower School Tech Integrator and Computer Science faculty member at Friends Seminary, is looking for occasional paid substitutes for two after school classes she teaches on Tuesday and Wednesdays from 3:15 until 4:30. Some of the projects include:

Programming Scratch games

Designing stencils, stamps and dollhouse furniture with a Cricut and/or CNC machine

Coding ozobot robots with Ozoblockly

Exploring Raspberry Pi with Scratch and Python

Some elementary teaching experience is necessary. However, you don’t need to know all of this already – just come with an interest in how children learn and a readiness to get to know the materials, explore and troubleshoot. (You’ll also need pass the school’s background check.)

A talented sub may have the opportunity to design and teach additional after school classes or summer program workshops.

Interested candidates can contact Judith at jseidel@friendsseminary.org. You can also read about her during-the-regular-school day curriculum at blogs.friendsseminary.org/lstech.
