Oregon State University

Full-time, Computer Science Instructor

OSU-Cascades invites applications for two full-time, (1.0 FTE), 9-month, Instructor positions. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Dean of Academic Affairs.

Oregon State University’s commitment to student success includes hiring, retaining, and developing diverse faculty to mentor and educate our undergraduate and graduate students from entry through graduation. Our Strategic Plan (http://oregonstate.edu/leadership/strategicplan/phase3) articulates the strategies we believe critical to advancing and equalizing student success. As part of this commitment, OSU has established a hiring initiative designed to support these strategies.

The Computer Science Instructor should be able to teach a subset of a broad range of undergraduate computer science courses, such as introductory programming, data structures, web development, mobile development, database management, networking, security, software engineering, and machine learning. More importantly, the ideal candidate should be passionate about code and teaching, be able to deliver a relevant, hands-on learning experience for students, conduct sound assessments of learning, and help cultivate a culture of engaged learners.

OSU-Cascades offers undergraduate and graduate courses and is the only branch campus in the state. Started in the fall of 2001, it now enrolls more than 1100 students in a range of bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. The undergraduate Computer Science program at OSU-Cascades was officially launched in Fall 2014 and offers students an Applied BS option in “Web and Mobile Software Development.” In Fall 2016, OSU-Cascades opened its brand new campus and academic building in the heart of Bend’s west side.

OSU-Cascades is a small, friendly campus, often selected by students for its small class sizes and intimate academic environment that enables meaningful student and faculty interactions. Additionally, the size of the campus encourages a high degree of interdisciplinary interaction and collegiality. At the same time, a strong partnership exists with OSU-Corvallis, which has a diverse student body of 25,000 students from across Oregon, all 50 states, and more than 100 countries.

OSU-Cascades is located in Bend, Oregon. Dubbed the “outdoor playground of the West” for a thousand good reasons, Bend is world-famous for both its outdoor pursuits and pristine beauty. A warm, inviting mountain getaway with a cosmopolitan appeal is what you’ll find when you arrive in the friendly town of Bend, Oregon. Majestic snow-capped peaks permeate the high-desert skyline making for some of the best weather in Oregon. Think sun-drenched days and cool nights along with endless options for plenty of play time.

Ideally, the candidate will be able to begin employment in September 2018.
