Our growing company also supports local economic development through Community Sourced Incubation in Michigan, Florida, Indonesia and Australia with prospective programs in other US and global cities. The Manufacturing Manager will be based in New York City and focus on supporting, growing understanding and connections between the startups and manufacturing community across the city and state more broadly.

The ideal candidate has experience developing a supply chain, has worked directly with manufacturers, is familiar with startups and innovation, is able to navigate both public and private sector as it relates to manufacturing and has ability to provide immediate impact while driving toward long-term goals. Specific knowledge of the NYC and/or New York State manufacturing ecosystem, the hardware startup community, and/or cleantech is a big plus! The Manufacturing Manager will support and grow existing programming and seek out additional business opportunities to grow SecondMuse’s work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build strategy for engaging manufacturers and execute the day-to-day engagement of manufacturers and partners to support startups seeking to manufacture. Develop programming and interventions to support manufacturers seeking to work more closely with startups.
  • Develop incubator content and programming focused on preparing startups to build efficient and effective relationships with manufacturers. Source, vet, and build relationships with manufacturers and facilitate relationships between manufacturers and hardware startups.
  • Provide support to Startup Success Manager in order to prepare startups for the manufacturing process, engaging them and connecting them to NY-based manufacturers when they are ready.
  • Oversee and contribute to events and convenings that increase awareness of manufacturing potential and possibilities in NYC and beyond.
  • Manage a network of engaged technical experts to inform the program, run seminars and build capacity of startups to manufacture.
  • Determine and track success metrics in order to measure impact and program effectiveness and submit regular reports on program success to client.

  • Self-motivated and proactive.
  • Kind, open and conversational. You’ll be communicating across sectors – from startup founders to manufacturers to investors to policymakers and corporate partners.
  • Thoughtful listener with a willingness to consider and execute on multiple perspectives and possible solutions. Ability to build infrastructure that will support an ecosystem as opposed to one-off solutions.
  • Experience and familiarity with human-centered design principles with an eye toward ensuring partners, participants and manufacturers have a valuable experience working with SecondMuse.
  • Trustworthy and accountable to commitments.
  • Cheerful in the trenches with a team-first orientation.
