INTERN: Gensler’s Experience Design Internship

Student Internship – Digital Experience Design (DXD) – Summer 2019
Gensler’s Experience Design and Brand Design studio is a collaborative team of designers, strategists, technologists and storytellers that engage with a wide variety of clients on projects of all sizes. Our work spans experience touchpoints from content driven architectural media displays, interactive spatial activations to digital products, environmental graphic design (EGD), signage + wayfinding, print collateral, and identity. As Gensler designers, we help our clients tell their unique stories effectively via every channel available in today’s diverse digital landscape. Our approach combines design and spatial expertise with thought leadership in current trends and insights. We believe that this approach results in meaningful experiences with exponential impact.
As a DXD / Brand Design intern in Gensler’s Los Angeles office, you will join a creative studio environment for a full-time, paid internship opportunity running approximately from the end of May to the mid-August 2019. You must be available for the entire duration of the program.
•Your Role
Your job is to leverage your expertise with a portfolio of digital technologies to support the design objectives of a wide variety of project types, including environmental visuals and content, interactive spatial experiences and digital-physical hybrid prototypes. You will be working directly with lead designers and gain tremendous experience and insight on project processes.
•What You Will Do During This Internship
Participate in the conceptualization and visioning of projects defining their strategic goals and experience design direction
Work closely with architects, interior designers, brand designers and other technologists to design and realize projects that seamlessly blend physical environments with branded experience and expression
Gain knowledge of the spatial design process, including designing in large scale and understanding technical implications
Work closely with the Creative Experiential Director and the DXD team to explore, prototype and develop digital artifacts that demonstrate new ways technology can enhance physical spaces including access to our maker space
Develop concept art to communicate ideas to clients- from style frames, to motion graphics and presentation layout design
Collaborate with your fellow interns on a student-led project to help improve a local community in need through the power of design
•Your Qualifications
Experience with the fundamentals of physical computing and/or game engines to utilize code to create generative and interactive experiences, animation, and imagery, using some of the following programs is appreciated but not required: Unity, Touch Designer, Processing/ Arduino, VVVV, jQuery UI, JavaScript frameworks such as Three.js, d3, p5js
Knowledge of production and post production basics in motion graphics and film editing software: After Effects, Final Cut Pro, Premier
Experience with 2D concept art work: storyboards/ sketches, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
Experience with 3D software such as C4D is appreciated but not required
A demonstrably strong grasp of the fundamentals of graphic design – including color theory, typography, composition, and scale
Experience with CAD Tools and designing in architectural scale is a plus
Willingness to take direction and the desire to learn from design professionals from a variety of disciplines
Proven ability to take a project from concept to completion
Curiosity and enthusiasm to learn the elements of holistic spatial experience design
All candidates must have completed their third year of undergraduate education or first year of graduate education
