About this job:

The Department of Photography & Imaging at New York University is looking for a graduate student to assist with departmental communications (newsletters, flyers, events) and social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter).

The position will report directly to the department’s Administrative Staff and the Associate Chair and have bi-weekly ZOOM check-ins to evaluate their performance. The supervisor will conduct a formal performance review at the end of the Fall Semester. Based on the performance evaluation, there may be an opportunity to continue work in the January/Spring terms.

This role will work remotely for the entirety of the Spring 2021 term.

Hours: The commitment is 20 hours/week.

Rate: The rate is $20/hr.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

  • Manage various department internal & external communications such as department newsletters, Tisch newsletter submissions, staff, faculty, student and alumni accomplishments and awards, online with various internal and external websites, blog entries and social media campaigns.

  • Assist in the development and design of recruitment and marketing materials for DPI through written publications and the website, including creating and managing written newsletters, collateral, website content.

  • Manage all departmental social media outlets.

  • Create and maintain engaging content for our social media platforms, including but not limited to, designing graphics, writing and posting daily to social media accounts, making event flyers, preparing departmental weekly newsletter.

  • Assisting in the development of promotional materials/events for students/alumni/faculty.

  • Researching best practices in social media and making proposals for more effective social media campaigns/platforms.

  • Assist with updating captions for videos and execute Accessibility practices and modernationization of content, including alt text for websites and captions for images and video.

  • Other administrative duties as needed.

Technical/Skill Requirements:

  • Proficient knowledge of web programming languages, such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript, among others. Ideally in various CMS including AEM and WordPress.

  • Adobe CC Suite (Illustrator +, Photoshop. InDesign & LightRoom; any other apps a plus).

  • Graphic design and Video Editing.

  • Proficient in MS Office Word/PowerPoint, Google Drive and a Mac environment.

  • Social media and marketing savvy: experience using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.

  • Strong communication skills both oral and written, be able to communicate with diverse constituents including, but not limited to students, faculty, administrators, and alumni.

  • Ability to work autonomously and strategically to reach stated goals.

  • Excellent multitasking and time management skills.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Possess a high level of professionalism and dependability.

  • Be forward thinking, collaborative, and culturally conscious.
