Media Art Xploration invites artists to submit proposals for works in dance, theater, music, experimental performance, experience design, and media arts. Proposed works must include a live element and explore themes related to our 2022-24 focus. Past works have included interactive installations, mixed reality performance, art works implementing scientific research, and more analogue pieces interrogating the promise and peril of our increasingly technologized world.
We like weird ideas that do not fit into categories, and familiar ideas made unfamiliar. Using traditional forms to illuminate the impact of science and technology also aligns with our mission; we appreciate a simple story well told. We hope to create critical conversations informed by science that encourage expansive ways of thinking.

We are seeking proposals for new in-progress works that have not been presented in New York City. This call is open to emerging and mid-career makers, including those who do not traditionally work in live arts.
We provide funding up to $7,500 and additional production support. MAX’s overall support includes creative development, administrative expertise, and production support for realizing and presenting the work. Selected artists are expected to be in dialogue with MAX and their network of scientific advisors and engineers who are curated to support the development of individual works.
