About the company:
Our FinTech startup client’s mission is to support the stressed-out person who’s trying to figure out how they’re going to pay their rent on time, or how to keep the lights on this month. They provide people with a flexible, convenient way to pay their monthly rent and life expenses, build credit in the process, and get themselves squarely on the road to financial ease and freedom from suffocating debt.
As a company, they’re doing great – they just tipped the $B valuation mark during Series C, which places them on a very short list of companies that have achieved unicorn status in less than 2 years. They’ve also experienced unprecedented employee growth and revenue, month over month, for the last 7 months – and that’s without any concerted marketing efforts yet!
You’d be getting your foot in the door at a great time – did we mention that equity is a part of comp? – and be an instrumental part of creating and building an entirely new product line that launches this year.
We’ve known their Head of Design for a long time – he is absolutely incredible and fits right into their empathy-led culture. He’s egoless, down to earth, kind, a great craftsman himself who you’d learn a lot from. You’d be the third or fourth member of the design team and have a lot of visibility across the entire 200+ person org.
About the role:
As the Senior / Lead User Researcher, you’ll have the opportunity to manage everything from moderated usability testing, to A/B testing, to surveys. The company across the board has a very big appetite for research, and are very keen to usher in this researcher – and, as the research evangelist for the company, you’ll be vocal among product leadership in advocating for research approaches, altering the course of product strategy throughout the company as they grow in this critical time.
This is a great role for someone who has experience working across the entire research lifecycle, and who has been either a solo researcher or part of a small team. You do not need to have prior experience setting up research at a company, but rather the desire and personality to do so.
This is not a management position, nor will it be for at least a year, but it’s absolutely a leadership position as it’s a high visibility and high impact role, and you’ll be leading the charge on the research function across the entire company. As the company overall is growing leaps and bounds, the career opportunities here are boundless.
You’ll be responsible for…
Owning and sparking up the UX research practice, in conjunction with support from their Head of Design and their other Senior Product Designer, who’s also skilled in Research and UX
Managing moderated usability testing, A/B testing, surveys, etc
Being the voice of research at the company
Collaborating with stakeholders across design, product, marketing, etc. to understand their needs and develop research solutions to help drive the business forward
Evolving the practice of UX Research through the introduction of best practices and tools
Serving as an expert on the end users by connecting dots across different research projects
Ideally 4-6 years of experience working across the entire research lifecycle
A firm grasp of the language of research, design, product, engineering, as well as the business
Expertise in a variety of research techniques both quantitative and qualitative
The ability to consult with stakeholders to think through problems and develop research plans
Translation of research data into consumable insights that tell a story about the business and product
Nice to haves…
