Responsibilities

The Pediatric Technology Gaming Specialist is responsible for the development, coordination and management of adaptive technology for all residents and families.  The individual will be responsible for creating and implementing technology based interventions and experiences, on a group and individual level, to increase independence, play opportunities and accessibility which further enriches and improves resident quality of life.  The experiences may include but are not limited to traditional gaming, coding, filming and recording, VR, social media tutorials, basic toy robotic engineering (i.e., Kinex, Legos), STEAM activities, and working with residents and their siblings. This position combines elements of adapted technology, play, assessment and intervention, staff education and direct patient contact. The Specialist will be part of a trans-disciplinary team working with medically-complex residents to promote quality family-centered care.

Qualifications

  • Must have knowledge of current digital gaming hardware and software and/or strong gaming experience. (i.e. Videogame systems, VR and AR technology, IOS, Android and Windows- based devices)
  • Must have knowledge in coding and creation/adaptation of software (any specific coding language?
  • Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Education, IT, Interactive Media Arts, or related field
  • Experience working with school-age children and adolescents in a therapeutic setting.
  • Experience working with children and families
  • Experience with adapted technology and play
  • Strong leadership, independence, and mentorship skills
  • Strong ability to communicate with families and patients in a clear, concise manner
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and communication skills

 

Experience

  • 2+ years’ experience (minimum) working in technology related field
  • Experience in the arts (e.g., visual, media, creative, performance) preferred
  • Working with children or in medical setting preferred
