Overview of the Office
The NYU Tandon School of Engineering Office of Student Leadership & Engagement
(OSL&E) seeks to support the academic goals of the School by providing services and
programs designed to enhance and maximize students’ co-curricular educational
opportunities. All programs and services are designed and implemented with the aim of
creating a rich educational environment, infused with the core values of: community
engagement and civic responsibility, diversity and cultural competency, innovation and
creative thinking, interpersonal and leadership development, and connection to the global
network university. OSL&E strives to increase student satisfaction in Brooklyn, assist in the
retention of students leading to graduation, and provide opportunities for students to
develop essential life skills. OSL&E works to accomplish this vision by supporting and
advising over 40 student clubs and organizations, providing leadership development
opportunities, engaging with students around topics of diversity and inclusion, organizing
orientation and transition programs, providing campus wide events and programs,
supporting on- and off-campus service initiatives, and working with undergraduate and
graduate students to build community, both on-campus and within the local Brooklyn area.
OSL&E is a department within the Office of Student Life and Services.
Brief Job Description
The Office of Student Leadership & Engagement, a part of the New York University Tandon
School of Engineering, is seeking an energetic and knowledgeable graduate student to fill
the role of Graphic Designer and Office Manager. The ideal candidate will be responsible for
a wide range of design, marketing, and general office duties, including those of a
confidential nature. Experience working in a fast-paced professional environment is
required; experience working in a higher education setting is preferred.
Responsibilities
● Serve as the primary designer of office’s print and online materials
● Oversee and execute marketing of office programs and initiatives
● Manage design and advertising requests for student clubs and organizations as
requested
● Support management of office social media accounts, including designing
campaigns, ensuring promotion of office events, and managing external marketing
requests
● Compile the weekly office newsletter
● Perform general office management duties, including answering phones, greeting
students/guests, and managing the office’s central email account
● Oversee office facilities and supply management, including student club lounges,
locker rentals, and Graduate Assistant office space

● Work and interact with students, staff, and faculty across the school and specifically
with student clubs and student leaders, both undergraduate and graduate
● Perform general word processing, spreadsheet, and data entry duties utilizing
intermediate-level functions
● Serve as an active member of the Student Activities team and assist with the logistics
and planning of both undergraduate and graduate programs including Convocation,
Orientation, Commencement, the Women’s Summit, the Diversity Summit, and other
programs and events
● Perform other duties as assigned by personnel within the Student Leadership &
Engagement area and the Office of Student Life & Services
Minimum Qualifications:
● Be a degree-seeking student at the Masters or Doctoral level at New York University
● Be able to commit to working 20 hours during the school week, including some
evening hours and weekends when necessary
● Be in good academic standing (above a 3.0 GPA)
● Experience with a variety of design platforms (Adobe Creative Suite preferred)
● Experience with social media management (Hootsuite preferred)
● Knowledge of both Microsoft Office Suite and all Google apps (Gmail, Calendar, Drive,
Documents, etc.)
● Strong attention to detail
● Highly organized with proven time management skills
● Maintain focus under pressure/deadlines
● Ability to work independently and in teams
● Ability to problem solve design and technical issues independently
● Must be discreet and exhibit good judgment in handling sensitive information
Applicants should have good communication and organizational skills, as well as be able to
take initiative in new projects. Applicants will have a desire to work alongside students and
work in a team environment. Applicants should also value working with diverse
communities, enjoy collaborating with students and staff, and have a strong interest in
higher education.
Duration and Compensation
The Graduate Assistant position officially begins September 1, 2022 and officially ends
May 17, 2023 with a compensation of $27.50 per hour for 20 hours per week. The
Graduate Assistant will also have access to $500 per year to be put toward professional
development.
