You might have already heard that Iran, my home country, has been witnessing a widespread popular uprising led by courageous women and youth in over 120 cities across the country with the slogan: “Women, Life, Freedom”.
The uprising was sparked by the cruel and senseless murder of a young Iranian Kurdish woman, Mahsa Amini in the hands of Iran’s “Morality Police” — a force designed solely to police and oppress women and their bodies — with the pretext of Mahsa’s “improper hijab” (Hijab has been legally mandated & enforced by law since early 80’s in Iran)
This uprising has been reverberating across the globe, with massive rallies in solidarity recently in Berlin with an estimated 100K attendees, among many other cities.
This Wednesday 10.26 marks 40 days since Mahsa’s unjust and cruel death. The 40th day after a loved one’s death is a significant occasion in Iranian culture, where family and friends gather to remember.
To that end, a day of global action is being organized by Iranians across the world to raise the voice and the message of Iran’s popular liberatory movement for justice, liberty and equality.
I’m writing to see if we can get help to set up large scale projections in multiple locations in NYC to activate public spaces for this important day of action.
The community will chip in to cover the costs for equipment and labor.
I know this is super short notice but everything has been happening super fast and I’m hoping that we can source the expertise and equipment to show up for this momentous occasion.
Kindly let me know if this is something you or someone you know is able to help with.
In solidarity,
Mani
