The TOM Fellowship Program is a 9-month leadership program that supports exceptional students who want to create open-source, affordable and innovative solutions for people with disabilities and the elderly.

 

The program focuses on learning by doing through hands-on experience in the intersection of innovation, design, and social impact. Throughout the program, participants deepen their understanding of Human-Centered Design methodologies, the product development process and the world of disabilities, among other topics.

 

The global nature of the program allows participants to create meaningful interactions with other students from around the world, while learning from the best industry professionals.

Who can apply?

  • Undergrad, grad or PhD students from an accredited institution.

  • Students with a background in engineering, making, design, therapy, disabilities or other related fields are encouraged to apply.

  • Community organizing/ project management experience is encouraged, but not mandatory.

What is the application process?

  • Apply at Tomuniversity.org/apply by June 1st (or May 1st priority deadline)

  • Relevant applicants are invited to interview with the TOM staff

  • Cohort announced on or around June 15th

What to expect from the Fellowship?

  • Accepted Fellows will be invited to an in-person orientation seminar August 14-16,2023 (dates tbc).

  • Fellows must attend bi-monthly virtual meetings and workshops

  • Fellows are expected to complete a personal TOM project or organize a TOM activity on their campus during their Fellowship year in order to successfully complete the program.

What else do I need to know?

  • US Participants are awarded a stipend, contingent upon successful completion of the program milestones.
