Position Summary:

Provide technical and operations support for the expanded multi-school (including Steinhardt, Tisch, and Tandon) production / presentation facilities in 370 Jay Street with a focus on audio; the space consists of multiple floors of research, production, and public program amenities in the new flagship building on the Brooklyn Campus, including a live performance venue (the Garage), a high end recording / multi-channel presentation facility (the Audio Lab), and production studios (the Ballroom). This person will be responsible for provisioning and supervising the installation and use of equipment and facilities for a variety of audio, sound, and music activities, including recording, live musical performance, support for audio research, and multi-channel installation, as well as identifying areas for improvement. This person will work with the administrative staff for the shared spaces within the building (“The Media Commons”), the faculty overseeing the facility from various NYU units, as well as various faculty, staff, student, and community stakeholders. This position will support the acquisition, installation, troubleshooting, and use of technology including addressing and resolving all technical issues for academic programs, research, administration and events.

Qualifications:

Required Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in music technology, digital media, or a related field

Preferred Education:
Master’s Degree in design, digital media, or a related field

Required Experience:
3+ years related experience

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Expertise in audio for both studio recording and live performance production. Must be conversant with industry standard workflows for software and hardware, including standards for recording and performing with multi-channel audio systems. Should have expertise in physical presentation of creative work involving technology in the performing arts, including event production (working with talent, processing technical riders, etc.). Skilled in use of Slack and Google software, and capable of working with internal administrative software. Excellent communication skills (oral and written). Must be a collaborative team player, while also demonstrating a self-motivated ability to work with limited supervision, strength in follow-through skills, and ability to support relationships with internal and external university partners. Detail-oriented, and able to prepare complex documents (such as technical documentation for student use) with minimal errors. A quick learner and able to master new skills and to learn about the multiple academic programs using the facility. Comfortable supervising student workers.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Capable of taking initiative to develop and implement plans and programs, possess strong interpersonal skills to support student and faculty work and to represent 370 Jay Street externally and internally. Knowledge of emerging technologies for audio production (Dolby Atmos, DANTE, etc.). Interest in continuous process improvement.

Additional Information:

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $72,000.00 to USD $88,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
