In partnership with the Assistant Director of Communications, this person will develop and design visuals for NYU Wagner with a particular focus on web, social media, and email marketing as well as print materials for advertisements, conferences, and events. Provide creative direction and storytelling suggestions for Wagner’s digital and print assets with the purpose of enhancing the school’s identity as a premier institution of public service.
Ensure quality and consistency for language, editorial guidelines, and digital accessibility. Support ad hoc video editing projects such as adding captions and transition slides to event recordings with the intention to share on Wagner’s digital channels. Bring a strong creative eye and passion for storytelling with the ability to lead creative projects across video, graphic design, and web.
Required Experience:
- Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines, either in a professional or academic setting.
- Experience filming and/or editing videos for school projects or personal/professional purposes.
- Experience with or strong interest in storyboarding for video.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
- Basic understanding of and ability to comfortably work in iMovie or another video editing software
- Familiarity with or strong willingness to learn more advanced video editing software such as Final Cut or Premiere Pro
- Strong creative eye and passion for storytelling
- Familiarity with the latest digital trends and platforms
- Experience managing multiple projects at once and meeting deadlines
- Comfortable working independently
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Interest in building social media audiences and engagement.
- An understanding of emerging social media platforms and how Millennial and Gen Z audiences might engage with these tools.
- Experience or interest in writing blogs and editorial content.
- Experience with data visualization appreciated, but not required.
Please share 2 graphic design work samples. A personal or professional website including the candidate’s work or portfolio will also suffice.
Evaluation schedule and procedure
There will be a mid-year and end-of-year evaluation and weekly/bi-weekly check-ins with the position supervisor. Open door policy, open dialogue, and drop-ins as needed are welcome. An initial training and orientation will be held the first week of employment with monthly check-ins on professional development to foster the growth and development of the employee.
This job is a 10 hours/week commitment, in-person at NYU Wagner’s historic administrative offices within the Puck Building located at 295 Lafayette St. New York, NY.
Exact Pay (or pay range)
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly base salary range for student employment positions are $15-$17 per hour for undergraduate students and $27.50-$28 per hour (until 8/31/23; $28.25-$29 per hour for positions starting 9/1/23) for graduate students. The hourly rate for graduate employees is based on the collective bargaining agreement with Local 2110.
