Position Overview

Franklin School, an innovative coeducational high school in Jersey City, NJ, is currently seeking a self-directed, experienced, and energetic High School Design and Technology for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Responsibilities

  • Teach multiple sections of Design-Engineering Technology and/or Computer Science classes in grades 9-12.
  • Collaborate with department members to maintain makerspaces
  • Collaborate closely with other subject teachers in support of horizontal and vertical planning
  • Work with faculty on the increased integration of purposeful technology in their curricula, refreshing existing curricula with innovative uses of technology where appropriate
  • Model innovative technology use for other faculty members
  • Foster a positive and constructive learning community

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Art, Design or related field required
  • Teaching experience in one or more of the following disciplines: design, entrepreneurship and/or maker education
  • Experience in curriculum development, project-based learning and facilitation of workshops or classes
  • Proficiency with design thinking, digital fabrication tools (3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines), coding, and electronics. Familiarity with Adobe and Autodesk software and basic programming languages.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with educators, students, and the community to develop and implement interdisciplinary projects.
  • Willingness to continuously learn and adapt one’s own skills.
  • A creative approach to problem-solving and a willingness to experiment with new teaching methods and technologies.
  • A genuine enthusiasm for maker culture and hands-on learning, and the ability to inspire this passion in students.
  • A focus on connecting classroom learning to real-world applications, ensuring that students understand the relevance of their work.
  • Experience teaching to a range of learners

  • Willingness to engage with and learn from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences

Compensation:

  • $60,000-$120,000/year
  • Commensurate with experience and education
