The Center for Multicultural Education and Programs (CMEP) within the Office of Global Inclusion, Diversity, and Strategic Innovation (OGI) is seeking Undergraduate Graphic Designers for the 2024–2025 Academic Year to support our Communications and Design Graduate Assistant. The positions will report to the Senior Associate Director for Strategic Projects, Communications, and Design and to the Graduate Assistant for Communications and Design.

Successful applicants will have knowledge of desktop publishing and design software and be skilled in the suite of apps within Adobe Creative Cloud (including Illustrator and Photoshop), proficient with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and a Mac operating system. Adobe InDesign, Lightroom, and other graphic program knowledge is a plus.

General Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain graphic designs used for the Office and/or Center’s calendars, digital and print promotions and event flyers, social media content, branding materials, and other marketing and communications materials
- Develop promotional graphics for social media in collaboration with other staff members, including Instagram stories, Facebook and Twitter posts, etc.
- Work closely with other staff members to support and develop the visual branding of the office, programs, and annual events (e.g., MLK Week, NYU Portraits, FOCUS, trainings, etc).
- Support with graphics for weekly and special newsletters and other office communications
- General office support—greet visitors, answer visitors’ questions, and refer them to appropriate resources
- General administrative duties (e.g., answering phones, copies, emails)
- Occasionally assist with university-related functions and events (Zoom meetings, Webinars, and possibly small in-person events) to promote office-sponsored programs and services
- Other duties as assigned, as well as opportunities for increased responsibilities around area(s) of interest
- Attend necessary trainings, staff meetings, and team development sessions as requested
Minimum Qualifications and Competencies Needed:
- A passion for global inclusion, diversity, belonging, equity, and access (GIDBEA) work and an understanding of the unique needs and concerns of historically marginalized and excluded groups within the NYU community
- Adobe CC Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, LightRoom, etc.)
- Color correction and color matching acuity
- Comfort with producing both digital and print materials, and should understand the different parameters for each output
- Knowledge and proficiency in designing visuals for Facebook, Instagram (Stories, Feed, Reels), Twitter, TikTok, LinkedIn, and Canva
- Familiarity with Google platforms (e.g. Docs, Sheets, Slides)
- Experience in an administrative capacity
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to conceptualize and implement design projects
- Ability to work collaboratively on a design and handle multiple design projects at once
- Comfort and experience working in flexible, changing, and fast-paced work environments
- An openness to giving, receiving, and applying feedback with a positive attitude to improve individual and team performance
- Ability to take initiative and work from a positive and solutions-oriented framework
- Demonstrates intention and thought in design choices in regard to storytelling, accessibility, branding, breaking down stereotypes, etc.
- Familiarity with NYU offices and resources
- Willingness to be part of a team
- Ability to operate with confidentiality
- Must be a currently enrolled full-time undergraduate student at NYU in the 2024–2025 academic year
- Must be in good academic standing for the term prior to selection and during the entire period of employment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience interning or working in a graphic designer capacity
- Experience designing and/or maintaining a brand “tone”
- Experience documenting events through photos and/or video
- Experience in working collaboratively as part of a design team
- Experience in or knowledge of NYU branding guides and accessible design standards
Compensation and Expectations:
- Pay: $17.00/hour
- Start Date: October 1 (flexible to start earlier)
- Schedule: 15- to 20-hours/week
- Duration:
- Fall 2024 and Spring 2025
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly base salary range for student employment positions are $16-$18.
