The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) seeks a part-time consultant with an interest in
working with artists, cultural workers, and immigrants to support NYFA Learning professional
development opportunities. Scope of work will be focused mainly under the Immigrant Artist
Program, more specifically the Immigrant Artist Newsletter. After onboarding, related
public-facing communications and administrative tasks will support other Learning activities.
Weekly hours may vary depending on internal deadlines and consultants’ availability.
Immigrant Artist Program
Through the Immigrant Artist Program (IAP), New York Foundation for the Arts is building and
serving a community of artists with diverse backgrounds who share the experience of
immigration. We connect artists with services and resources to foster their creative careers, gain
support and exposure for their work, and integrate into the cultural world of New York and
beyond while upholding their distinct identities. We do this via three main components,
Mentoring, Workshops, Resources, and a free monthly Immigrant Artist Newsletter.
Scope: Research, preparation and proofing of monthly newsletter. Related public-facing
communications.
Primary responsibilities will include support for the IAP Newsletter (Approx. 12 hrs/month):
● Research and identify potential ideas for lead story, arts opportunities, and non-arts
resources that can support immigrant artists’ well-being and arts practice.
● Draft and format content in Mailchimp.
● Coordinate, conduct, and draft lead story interviews.
● Participate in editorial meetings.
● Client communication support (for i.outreach@nyfa.org & immigrantartistrc@nyfa.org
email accounts, the 1-on-1 consultations, and public programs).
● Assist with participant communication, reminders, etc.
Other responsibilities will include (Approx. 12 hrs/month; will start after onboarding and
training from learning team members):
● NYFA Learning: Assist with marketing and promotion of NYFA Learning. Help develop
content and build out new courses (filming, drafting, collecting content, etc.). Manage
client inquiries about NYFA Learning and help troubleshoot.
● Public Programs: Support event creation on NEON, announcements, invitations,
registration for NYFA Learning one-off and alumni events.
● Draft general Learning/Program email templates to support Learning team members
*For Hybrid Consultant:
● Managing mailings of The Profitable Artist Book (Approx. 6 hs/month) :
● Tracking orders, processing USPS packing slips, packing books, and dropping at
the post office (2 x monthly)
The position will be open until filled, with an immediate start date dependent on final candidate’s
availability.
Qualifications/Characteristics
● Interest in supporting artists, cultural workers, and immigrants
● Familiarity with G Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Database/CRM, and willingness to
learn additional platforms as needed
● Strong written and verbal communication skills
● Ability to research for and create written content (summaries/abstracts, blog posts,
articles, etc.) that are relevant to NYFA’s artist community, e.g. arts-related opportunities,
non-arts well-being services/resources, and trends in the field.
● Collaborative and keen problem solver with the ability to think on their feet
● Experience and/or interest in serving as a primary point of contact for constituents
● An approach that acknowledges that sometimes you might not know the answer, but
you’re the kind of person who likes to troubleshoot to figure it out
● If you like figuring out technology and systems, and like improving systems to make it
easier for people to use a tool, this role would be a good fit for you
● Prior experience working in an arts nonprofit preferred
