The Integrated Design & Media Program in the Department of Technology, Culture, and Society at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering invites applications for a full time, non-tenured, renewable faculty position in Integrated Design & Media, at the level of Industry Assistant Professor, with a start date of September 1, 2026.

Practice

We are seeking candidates with diverse and hybridized backgrounds (some combination of scholar, artist, designer, or developer) whose work addresses themes of gender, race, labor, accessibility, and other crucial issues of societal context (bias, surveillance, authorship, consent) through emerging media technologies. We are particularly interested in creative practice and research that focuses on equity, civic engagement, and broadening participation in emerging technology through activism, advocacy, design justice, or other strategies.

Candidates should be materially working with emerging media technologies and design practices in one or more of the following areas: visual design, web tools, machine learning, extended reality (AR, VR, spatial computing) and 3D. This position will complement and strengthen our commitment to delivering a robust curriculum that is inclusive of diverse and critical perspectives, applications, and sites in digital art and design practice.

We strongly encourage candidates whose work engages with or has had a demonstrable impact on diverse communities to apply. 

The successful candidate should be an excellent teacher with a strong commitment to student mentorship, prepared to teach undergraduates and Master’s students. Teaching requirements include core courses for the program as well as special topics courses within the candidate’s area of expertise. Candidates can expect a 2/2 teaching load with some additional service. The Integrated Design & Media program offers BS and MS degrees in Integrated Design & Media.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a terminal degree (MFA, PhD preferred) in digital media, media arts, design, or related fields (art, design, engineering).

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary (for 9-month) range for this position is $80,000-$120,000 for the Industry Assistant Professor rank.
