Job Description
=95 Work with Avaaz team to de=
velop and implement the strategic direction of the Avaaz
website, email, =
and other online tools
=95 Design high quality and high performance softw=
are
=95 Oversee all phases of product development from creation and review of f=
unctional
specifications through final design, and oversight of all devel=
opment activities
=95 Manage development team's daily activities by l=
eading architecture decisions,
participating in designs, design review, code review, and implementation in=
a hands-on
environment
=95 Maintain current technical knowledge to su=
pport rapidly changing technology, discover
new technologies, work with m=
anagement and development teams to implement new
technologies
=95 Understand and communicate the business value of archit=
ecture components to senior
management team
=95 Oversee all efforts to=
ensure the security of the Avaaz website and database.
=95 Work to ensur=
e the maximum deliverability of Avaaz emails, including through
coordinating liaison with ISPs.

This position reports to the Executive Director.
Location
Avaaz is a virtual organization, with most of our work d=
one over email, telephone, skype and
video calling. We have global team r=
etreats three times per year. Our staff =96 a small team of less
than 20 =
– are currently based in Rio de Janeiro, New York, Paris, Geneva, Buenos Air=
es, and
London. Team members are free to work from anywhere in the world, a unique =
and major
advantage for this job. Avaaz covers office costs, either to es=
tablish a home office or to rent one,
and we support staff to house thems=
elves in large partner organizations of Avaaz (such as Oxfam)
when preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary varies wi=
th location and experience, but is highly competitive with leading non-profi=
t
organizations. Benefits also range with location, but include 4 weeks p=
aid vacation per year. The
contract is for one year, with the strong expectation that a successful yea=
r will lead to a longer
term commitment.
