Systems Administrator
(Note: post is in Kathmandu, Nepal)
Rangjung Yeshe Institute formally invites applications for the post of Systems Administrator. This is a full time appointment that will run from 1st January 2013 until 31st December 2013, with the possibility of extension. This post is located on our main campus in Boudhanath, Kathmandu, Nepal.
The System Administrator is responsible for effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. He or she is responsible for the technical research and development that will enable RYI’s infrastructure to improve. The System Administrator ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to RYI organizational values, enabling staff, volunteers, and partners to perform their job duties.
The System Administrator is accountable for the following:
• Oversee development of the RYI Portal web application within a LAMP environment, utilizing jQuery libraries and AJAX & JSON technologies within HTML5,
• Linux and Windows systems that support day-to-day operations within the RYI organization.
• Linux, Windows and Application systems that support development of the RYI Website and RYI Portal application.
• Responsibilities for these systems include SA engineering and provisioning, operations and support, maintenance and research and development, to ensure continual innovation.
• Install new or rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
• Develop and maintain all systems, applications, security, and network configurations.
• Website development within Drupal 7 CMS:
• Oversee development of the RYI Portal web application within a LAMP environment, utilizing jQuery libraries and AJAX & JSON technologies within HTML5,
• Oversee development of software framework for LMS courses within Moodle.
• Work closely with Network Administration to ensure all systems are running at optimal performance.
Candidates should hold an undergraduate degree in a relevant field and have a professional background in systems administration, or a related discipline. A willingness to learn new skills related to systems administration (depending on the successful applicant’s basic skills set) and a strong interest in supporting RYI’s purpose and mandate are essential. A high level of proficiency in both written and spoken English will be expected.
