Michigan State University is seeking candidates for the position of User Ex=
perience Researcher at the Usability & Accessibility Center. The position is=
full time, annual year, fixed-term starting April 2009 or as soon as possib=
le thereafter. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Usability & Accessibility Center (UAC): The goal of the UAC is to develop a=
nd disseminate innovations in theory, research, and technology in order to e=
nhance usability and accessibility in Web and information technology applica=
tions. The UAC serves external clients and MSU faculty, students, and organi=
zations through consulting, collaborative research, publications, and sponso=
rship of workshops and conferences. Its state-of-the-art testing facility is=
a resource for undergraduate and graduate courses and curriculums. The UAC =
actively participates in local, regional, national, and international usabil=
ity and accessibility communities of practice.

Duties: The user experience researcher will be responsible for
=B7 Conducting user analysis, research and testing, summarizing res=
ults, and making recommendations.
=B7 Evaluating Web interface designs for usability and accessibilit=
y, including website accessibility compliance inspections, user interface he=
uristic reviews, competitive analyses, and formative and summative usability=
evaluations.
=B7 Analyzing results and preparing reports detailing the outcome o=
f user experience evaluations with quick turn-around times.
=B7 Presenting findings with actionable recommendations to clients.
=B7 Creating information architecture documentation (site architect=
ures, process flows, wireframes, etc.).
=B7 Creating and/or revising web-based user interface prototypes.
=B7 Identifying opportunities, writing literature reviews, and assi=
sting in the preparation of proposals for external grants in the areas of hu=
man-computer interaction, accessibility for persons with disabilities, and i=
nformation communication technologies.
=B7 Assisting principal investigators in conducting empirical resea=
rch studies, analyzing data, and writing grant reports.
Professional Qualifications (required)
=B7 Master=92s degree in human factors, cognitive psychology, human=
-computer interaction, or related field.
=B7 At least two years of proven user research/usability experience=
.
=B7 Expert knowledge of Section 508 standards and Web Content Acces=
sibility Guidelines.
=B7 Strong technical and analytical skills.
=B7 Experience conducting user experience evaluations.
=B7 Empirical research experience, including publication in profess=
ional journals or technical conference proceedings.
=B7 Demonstrated expertise in quantitative data analysis, including=
SPSS and MATLAB.
=B7 Experience using eye tracking equipment and software.
=B7 Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and in t=
eam environments.
=B7 Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal co=
mmunication skills.

Professional Qualifications (desired)
=B7 Knowledge of user-centered design methodologies, user interface=
design principles, best practices and standards.
=B7 Working knowledge of XHTML, Cascading Style Sheets, and VB.Net.
=B7 An understanding of issues in structuring and communicating inf=
ormation on the Web.
=B7 An ability to analyze technical and scientific information and =
translate it for the intended audience.
=B7 Experience with usability testing tools.
=B7 Experience with online website survey tools, including Zoomeran=
g, phpQ, or Survey Monkey.
