[CALL] Installation Projects for Feast Conference, Oct 2013 (Due Aug 9th)

#1

The Feast: RFP For ABSOLUT Installation

Background – Since 2008, The Feast Conference has been at the forefront of Social
Innovation, convening entrepreneurs, radicals, doers and thinkers who are revolutionizing the
way things work for the betterment of humanity. We believe that change happens when
anyone is empowered to re-imagine how something might be better and seizes the
opportunity to realize that vision. Over two days, we bring together extraordinary people from
across disciplines to develop creative solutions to societal challenges; the challenges we will
confront this year are Health, Education & Veterans. The Feast Conference 2013 will be
taking place in New York City at Center 548 October 16-18.

The Pavilion (October 17-18) – Focusing on this year’s theme, “Breaking Through”, the
second floor of Center 548 will be transformed into The Pavilion, where we physicalize the
innovative ideas of The Feast conference—translating words into experiences and activating
insights through artwork. The space will be inhabited throughout the days on October 17-18
by 400 conference attendees. This participatory space comes to life on the final evening of
the conference when we open the space to the public and celebrate our work with a giant
dinner called The Feast Worldwide NYC.

Call for Submissions – In the spirit of cooperation and innovation, The Feast Conference is
collaborating with ABSOLUT to provide artists the opportunity to showcase their creative
accomplishments in a large exhibition hosted at The Pavilion on October 17-18. This open
call will emphasize the social, sustainable, and communal definition of art and how its
outreach pushes and inspires change to build a brighter future from the bottom up.

One artist will be selected to create an installment piece that conveys what it means to
“Transform Today,” breaking the boundaries of art and invoking creative risk-taking into our
lives. A reminder that we can all transform our present and future if we adapt a daring spirit
and use creativity to stretch everyday reality from the mundane to the extraordinary. The
piece should foster an understanding of innovation in an experiential way. This piece will
serve as the focal point of the space and must involve a component of participatory
interaction/co-creation by the audience. The installation must comprise of three pieces, each
serving as a visual backdrop for the three designated challenge areas for the conference
breakout sessions. During the breakout sessions, as conference attendees collaborate and
decide which challenge they want to tackle, your piece will invite attendees to interact with it
and ultimately finalize their challenge teams and ideas, under the guidelines set forth by the
artist. The piece will also be available for public (non-conference attendees) interaction for a
designated time frame. The three pieces can fall under one thematic, and could possibly
include corresponding variations of each other (ex: varied colors or geometric shapes).

The awarded artist will be afforded an opportunity to gain exposure with their installations
displayed in a large public space and featured among a wide, diverse artist community. [The
artist will be granted up to $10,000 to realize their work, along with recognition on at the
event, through digital media and PR support to major outlets by The Feast.]

Submit your most compelling creations to obtain access to one of the most innovative and
inspired events this fall!

The Guidelines – Artists must submit the following to be considered for The Pavilion:

1. Artist Name(s)
2. Jpegs/Slides indicating Title, Medium, Dimensions, etc.
3. Statement describing how the work conceptualizes and demonstrates what it means
to “transform today”
