The role: User Experience Designer, San Bruno, CA

You=92re an User Experience D=
esigner with strong end-to-end design skills who can collaborate with Engine=
ering and Product Management colleagues to craft a vision for key product ex=
periences on YouTube. Excellent conceptual design skills as well as strong i=
nformation architecture, interaction design, and visual design skills are a =
must. You must be able to provide a personal portfolio of highly intuitive and clean user interfaces. This role involves co=
mmunication and collaboration across multiple offices, products and teams. 

Respon=
sibilities:

Define the user model and user interface for new and=
existing YouTube products and features.
Dev=
elop high level and/or detailed storyboards, mockups and interactive proto=
types to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas.
=
Gauge the usability of new and existing products, and=
making constructive suggestions for change.
Collaborate effectively with user experience researchers, visual designers,=
and other specialists on the UX team.

Requirements:

Solid academic background in interaction=
design, human-computer interaction, or related field (BS or MS in Computer =
Science or related field a big plus).
Expe=
rience with early stage/new product conceptualization as well as shipping =
of new versions and/or feature enhancements of existing product.
Proven record of designing usable web-based interfa=
ces with technical skills around HTML and JavaScript preferred.
Strong, clean visual design sense.Excellent leadership, communication and teamwork skills.

The role: User Experience Researcher=
, San Bruno, CA

As a User Experience Researcher =
for YouTube, you will design and conduct user research studies across the pr=
oduct cycle, from the concept phase to post-launch evaluation. You will be h=
ighly skilled in a range of research methods and will have significant exper=
ience working on discovery research for new web-based applications. YouTube =
researchers work in close collaboration with designers, product managers, ma=
rketing staff and engineers to build products with a laser-like focus on the=
needs of real users. The ideal candidate for this job will possess strong q=
uantitative UER skills, be able to adapt to our fast paced environment, have=
outstanding communication skills, be able to work successfully with interdi=
sciplinary teams. Candidates must have a proven track record of turning design research findings into a workable set of principles or=
design standards.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate a successful track =
record in three or more of the following areas: accessibility and universal =
design, creation of personas, field-based research techniques such as ethnog=
raphy, analysis of web server log data, summative evaluations or benchmarkin=
g of technological products, management of outsourced user research projects=
, participatory design techniques, testing applications for mobile devices, =
online communities and social computing. Additional helpful skills are exper=
ience working with vendors to support research and design, working with geog=
raphically dispersed teams, and experience with internationalization and loc=
alization..

ile we assume that most qualified applicants will have an advanced degree in=
a relevant research field, we welcome applications from research practition=
ers whose qualifications have come from less traditional paths. If you’ve ac=
quired your expertise in user research through non-academic means, or throug=

Responsibilities:

Carrying out and/or=
supervising laboratory based evaluations of web-based products, including=
working with teams, deciding on methods and timelines for studies, and de=
monstrating positive impact on projects and products.
Designing and conducting different types of user research stud=
ies, including lab-based usability studies, field studies, and usability i=
nspections (heuristic evaluations or cognitive walkthroughs) as well as pa=
rticipation in product reviews and strategic research planning.Explaining the fundamentals of research practice to =
non-specialists and driving change based on research findings.
=
Advocating for user experience research and its incorpo=
ration into the overall product cycle.

Requirements:

B.S. in Human-Computer Interaction, Cogniti=
ve Psychology, Computer Science, and/or 5+ years of relevant work experien=
ce including experience/interest with some of the following: online video,=
social media, search, content rich sites, user generated content, communi=
ties.
Excellent analytical ability, especi=
ally with regard to observation of user behavior.
Strong oral and written communication skills; can present findings =
concisely and effectively.
Can work well in =
cross-functional teams, including engineers, product managers, and UI desi=
gners.
Knowledge or experience with web de=
sign/HTML and analysis of web server log data.
Training or knowledge of research methods and statistics including lab-=
based usability studies, field studies, and usability inspections.
Flexible: can adapt to changing schedules and dif=
ferent types of products, and develop new user research methods where need=
ed.
The role: Visual Designer, San Bruno, CA
=

As=
a Visual Designer you will work closely with engineers, product managers, r=
esearchers, and other designers throughout all stages of the product cycle. =
If you possess a solid understanding of user-centered design principles, hav=
e excellent visual design skills/ great technical know-how, and  a prov=
en expertise in designing for the Web then this role is for you.

Responsibilit=
ies:

Responsible for creating intuitive, clean, simple visua=
l design solutions for one or more of YouTube’s products (consumer-, adverti=
ser-, and partner-facing)
Working alongside other YouTube visual designers to continue the evolutio=
n of the visual design language (aka look and feel) of YouTube’s products, a=
cross consumer, advertiser, and partner tools
Significant contribution to the development of style =
guide documentation
Rev=
iewing and providing feedback to teams on the application of YouTube visual =
design to our products
Improve the quality and consistency of our overall visual design langua=
ge

Communicate effe=
ctively in a cross-functional product development team and present ideas and=
designs effectively.
=
Marketing and promotion of products and features so users understand what th=
ey’re getting and what the benefits are

Requirements:

BA/BS or above in Graphic Design, Informati=
on Design, or other visual arts; strong technical background a plus. Minimum 3+ years experience d=
esigning outstanding web-based products for a consumer-oriented website as a=
key member of a design team.
Fluent in HTML and CSS 
Solid knowledge of Adobe Fireworks, and experience using to collaborate it in an enterpr=
ise setting
Proven=
ability to act as a leader in communicating conceptual ideas and design rat=
ionale, all within a user-centered design process.
Must be self-motivated to prioritize and manage=
work load and meet critical project milestones and deadlines.
Must be an effective problem solver.=
Excellent interperson=
al skills and the ability to build good working relationships.
