Position Description:
This graduate assistant will apply their expertise to a balance of student advising, data management, and assessment. They will help track participation and outcomes for awards processes and office programming. They will help develop and administer assessment tools before and after office programming and awards processes. They will contribute to stakeholder-facing reports. In addition to these administrative responsibilities, this position will provide advising to students and alumni who are applying for Global Awards. The Office of Global Awards is looking for candidates with a demonstrated commitment to working with a diverse population of students.
Department Summary:
Part of the NYU Changemaker Center, NYU’s Global Awards team advises undergraduates and alumni interested in applying to nationally and internationally competitive fellowships and scholarships such as the Rhodes, Marshall, Fulbright, Truman, Goldwater, Udall, and many more. The office manages two cohort-based programs: the Application Development Cohort and the Public Service Summer Institute. The office also administers programming throughout the year to promote awards and help students develop the skills necessary to be competitive candidates for these awards.
The Office comprises a Director and three Assistant Directors, each of whom balances fellowship advising, program development, outreach and communication, and administrative tasks. To learn more about our office, please visit

Responsibilities:
– Overseeing student- and applicant-tracking processes, including data input and report generation;
– In collaboration with the Global Awards team, reviewing, developing, and distributing assessment tools, including pre-and post-event surveys and post-process reflections; – Analyzing these data to identify office trends, successes, and areas in need of improvement; – Researching departmental structures and best practices at peer institutions; assessing the Office’s structures and processes with these institutions in mind;
– Providing in-person advising to prospective applicants and feedback to applicants on written components of fellowship applications;
– Facilitating programming that helps applicants develop their application materials. This may include writing workshops, peer review sessions, information sessions, and more; – Developing fluency in the mission, history, candidate profile, and other details of each fellowship in their portfolio;
– Writing or compiling endorsement materials for applicants and supporting external submission processes;
– Staffing office drop-in hours (virtual and/or in-person);
As a Graduate Assistant in the Changemaker Center/Global Awards, expectations also include:
- Serving as the first point of contact for Center visitors and callers. Responsible for answering the phone, directing calls, greeting guests, and answering general questions about the Changemaker Center and the Office of Global Awards.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will bring a combination of student advising and analytic skills to the position. They should have an ability to present information clearly to students and recent alumni and be at ease interacting with university faculty and staff in a professional setting. The candidate must demonstrate commitment to confidentiality, as they will handle sensitive information such as student transcripts and letters of recommendation. Finally, the candidate should be eager to incorporate their own graduate experiences, especially research experiences, into their approach to advising.

Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment, exercise sound judgment, initiate ideas, and work within deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience using Qualtrics or similar survey/assessment software
- A demonstrated commitment to working with a diverse population of students and staff ● Adept at research and data-driven reporting (can provide analysis on trends in Digital Marketing and Higher Education) as well as creating data visualization presentations ● Interest in existing and emerging technologies
- Comfortable adopting new technologies, processes, and tools
Relevance to Future Higher Education Career:
Fellowships (Global Awards) advising is a rapidly growing field within higher education administration, and applicants with direct experience in the field are in high demand. Graduate assistants in our office will also gain transferable skills in international education, student advising, and program management. They have the opportunity to partner with stakeholders across campus, including within student affairs, academic units, study abroad, student success, and more. Previous Global Awards graduate assistants have gone on to positions in fellowships advising, academic advising, events management, and further graduate study.
Schedule:
Preference will be given to applicants who can perform this role in person, but consideration will be given to qualified applicants who can only work remotely. The position is funded for 20 hours/week during the school year. The Office has funding to support this position year-round, so preference will be given to applicants who can work during the summer (although this is not required).
Evaluation:
The Graduate Assistant will be evaluated on a monthly basis through bi-weekly check-in meetings with the supervisor.
Pay Rate:
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly base salary range for student employment positions are $16-$17 per hour for undergraduate students and $28.25-$29 per hour for graduate students. The hourly rate for graduate employees is based on the collective bargaining agreement with Local 2110.
