Technology Mentors for Afterschool Technology Clubs

Vision Education & Media, a company dedicated to working with schools to support the creative and effective use of technology, is seeking Technology Mentors to work with youth in grades PK‐8 in an after‐school environment using a project‐based approach. Vision Education & Media’s after school program activities are designed to wrap around the school day curriculum and creatively enhance students’ learning, using computers for Animation and Game design, LEGO Robotics, and other classes. This is an opportunity to have fun building with LEGO, to help students develop creative and academic skills through the creation of multi‐media projects, and the opportunity to develop/teach technology integrated curriculum.

Qualifications:

Candidates for mentor positions must:

• Have a BA or BS degree and a background in education and/or technology.

• Have a minimum of 1-year teaching experience in a classroom setting.

• Have mastery of classroom management techniques.

• Have proficiency with computers.

• Have a desire to learn new technologies.

• Be energetic and enthusiastic

Responsibilities of the Mentor position include:

• Ability to commit to all program dates.

• Ability to be on time and prepared for class.

• Attendance to Vision trainings and workshops as required.

• Regular communication with Manager or Supervisor.

• Written Wiki reports within 24hrs of class.

• Supplementation of basic curriculum with additional activities/project ideas.

This position is part‐time. Training is provided. Computer clubs are generally 2 hours long and take place during the afternoon between 2pm‐6pm. We teach classes in all five boroughs; candidates are responsible for transportation to and from school locations. Programs of varying durations are available, so please be prepared to discuss your availability to commit to a project through its completion upon interviewing.

Wage: Competitive hourly wage depending upon experience.

Technology Assistant Mentors for Afterschool Technology Clubs and Birthday Parties

This is an opportunity to have fun building with LEGO, to help students develop creative and academic skills through the creation of multi‐media projects, and the opportunity to develop/teach technology integrated curriculum.  In addition, we work with families to host LEGO Robotics birthday parties at our studio in the Flatiron District.

Qualifications:

Candidates for Assistant Mentor positions must:

• Be enrolled in a BA or BS degree program with a background in education and/or technology.

• Have experience working with children in a classroom, camp, or after school setting.

• Have proficiency with computers.

• Have a desire to learn new technologies.

• Be energetic and enthusiastic

• Ability to be on time and prepared for class.

• Attendance at Vision trainings and workshops as required.

• Regular communication with Manager or Supervisor.

• Ability to support lead mentor in teaching the after school program.

This position is part‐time, and we plan to provide approx. 8‐12 hours of work for assistants most weeks.  Training is provided. Computer clubs are generally 2 hours long and take place during the afternoon between 2pm‐6pm. Birthday parties take place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons. We teach classes in all five boroughs; candidates are responsible for transportation to and from school locations.  Programs of varying durations are available, so please be prepared to discuss your availability to commit to a project through its completion upon interviewing.
