for a climate educator to serve as Program Manager, Climate Change E=
ducation.
This individual will lead the new Climate Change Educatio=
n team at
National Geographic in designing materials, professional devel=
opment,
and outreach programs about climate change. He or she will=
coordinate
plans and programs throughout the Society and with external =
partners,
integrating research, media development and other available re=
sources,
and identifying opportunities for collaboration and cross-
=
departmental projects. He or she will also maintain involvement and communication with the extended climate education community and
partne=
rs outside of the society.
Specifically, this individual will devel=
op strategy and implementation
plans for climate education programs and =
partnerships, write proposals
and planning documents for long-term colla=
borations and program
development projects. He or she will oversee proje=
ct timelines,
budget, program and materials development; hire and manage=
contract
staff as necessary including scientists, teacher-contributors,=
freelance writers and expert reviewers; serve as a liaison to project partners (internal and external) and manage plans for project
publici=
ty, dissemination and training as appropriate. He or she will
deve=
lop instructional materials including complete curricula,
collections of=
lesson plans, activities, teaching posters, family
guides, videos, tool=
kits, and other resources. Materials will be
designed as in-classr=
oom, informal, and outdoor experiences for pK-12
students, families, and=
the public. Finally, he or she will develop
and deliver innovative prof=
essional development for educators based on
current educational research=
, and customize those experiences based on
grade level, teacher backgrou=
nd knowledge, and for in-person and
online audiences.
Qualifica=
tions:
Bachelor’s degree in education, geography, science, or related field required. Masters degree highly preferred. 5 or more years
exper=
ience in instructional materials development and/or program-
producing p=
rojects (including personnel, budgets, timeline,
production, distributio=
n and promotion). Deep understanding of climate
science and climate chan=
ge research.
Excellent management and organizational skills with a =
high attention
to detail; self-direction and motivation; ability to hand=
le a variety
of projects with changing priorities in a dynamic environme=
nt. Strong
interpersonal skills, including ability to collaborate effect=
ively
with colleagues and project team members with diverse expertise; collaborative, team-oriented work style. Passion for National

This is a 13-month position in =
National Geographic=92s Washington, DC
office, with the possibility of r=
enewal contingent on funding. The
position requires 10-20% travel.
