hey all you awesome programmers: FREELANCE PROCESSING JOB

A friend of mine is looking for a good processing artist, to finish work on a visualization.

Some details in his email below.

If you’re interested I can email the (beautiful) boards to you, but they’re too big to post to list.

Feel fee to contact Elliot directly with questions too –

This is a little demonstration project that I’m putting together. I’m working with a friend of mine who was the EP at Digital Kitchen New York on a few projects that bring together motion and interactive.

This one is a visualization exercise – I attached a board. It’s a two stage process. In the first stage, the Processing sketch parses an RSS feed, and visualizes the posts over time. The second stage is where it gets kind of interesting – here, the Processing sketch looks at the blog posts from stage one as “data food” – in areas of the screen that are “food rich” – where there were a lot of posts – the sketch kicks of a generative L-system process, growing tree like forms away from the center visualization.

So it’s a cool little exploration of how the data that makes up our lives – in this case, our RSS feeds – can serve as the basis for a generative process – producing a kind of unique, living, data fingerprint for each feed.

The other thing I should point out is that a significant part of the project has been built. We’ve been working with another Processing artist who was able to get through most of the tricky stuff in stage one – parsing and mostly visualizing the RSS feed. He had to leave the project due to a personal emergency, but his code gives a solid foundation.

I can give you more details, but that’s the basic overview. It should be a cool little piece. We’re looking for someone who can help us wrap this up in the next few weeks. Ideally, it’d be someone with a good background in motion and L-systems. The most important thing, of course is the usual – reliable, availability to work now, etc.

Anyone you could suggest would be a huge help!

Thanks,

Elliot
