Jen Bekman Projects, Inc. encompasses a variety of interrelated and evolving programs, all of which are organized around the concept of “art for everyone.” JBP is currently comprised of three programs: 20×200 the innovative and critically acclaimed website, which offers limited edition prints at ridiculously affordable prices; Jen Bekman Gallery which opened on the Lower East Side in 2003, and exhibits the work of emerging and established artists in the mediums of photography, painting, drawing, and mixed media; and Hey, Hot Shot!, an international photography competition which discovers, recognizes and promotes photographers at all stages of their careers. Our diverse array of projects and programs share the goal of supporting artists and art collectors alike. We enjoy an inimitable working environment and innumerable opportunities for growth.

Jen Bekman Projects | Systems Administrator

Do you live and breathe network architecture? Does setting up and maintaining deployment scripts, building virtualized application servers, and tuning load balancers sound like your idea of a good time? If so, we have your dream job. We are looking for a organized and meticulous System Administrator. Our Sys Admin will be responsible for maintaining the server environments for the websites and blogs that comprise our many projects. Our ideal candidate will have a broad range of experience with a focus on building and maintaining scalable, stable, secure environments. Consultants with startup experience are encouraged to apply.

As you might expect, this is an on-call job. You will be expected to be available 24/7 if there is a server issue to be solved.

Jen Bekman Projects | Engineer

We are looking for a highly motivated Engineer who will be involved in a wide range of projects on all of the JBP sites: 20×200, Hey, Hot Shot! and Jen Bekman Gallery. Our ideal candidate is a creative thinker who is comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously with the ability to design and write high performance, reliable and maintainable code under deadline. Our bootstrapping technical team will ask you to think outside of the box, use open source code, and to handle a broad range of challenges. Like everyone on the JBP team, you should love art, photography and technology as much as we do.

This is a full-time role that begins immediately. Our team is smart, ambitious and passionate; the working environment is energetic and fun in spite of regular, tight deadlines.

Jen Bekman Projects | Frontend Developer

Jen Bekman Projects is seeking a Frontend Developer with a strong background in design for e-commerce, consumer-facing web sites. You will work with our Engineering, Product, Business Development and Marketing teams to develop and actualize design concepts and implement clean and elegant code for our public-facing sites and internal reporting tools. The ideal candidate takes pride in both the quality of their design and their proficiency at implementing it for the web.

Jen Bekman Projects | Intern

Jen Bekman Projects is looking for interns to assist with general administrative tasks and archiving for 20×200, Hey, Hot Shot! and Jen Bekman Gallery. The office and the gallery are in separate locations, and we are looking for interns to assist in both spaces. We’d love it if you had some experience in an office and/or gallery environment, but what’s most important to us is that you’re smart, polished, motivated and as excited about art as we are.

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to hone your skills in 1 or 2 of the following areas:

  • Editorial + Curatorial – Curating content on the site, copy editing, writing, blogging and project support.
  • Design + Tech – Developing tools for the site and designing for new content.
  • Marketing + Business – Researching business opportunities for JBP, assisting in partnership development, creating and analyzing sales and testing reports.
  • Production + Archive – Learning the behind the scenes of how an art business operateseverything from web production, printing + packaging, to shipping + community relations.
  • Jen Bekman Gallery – Working directly with our gallery director on press releases, blogging, site maintenance and most importantly, handling and installing art.

For each of your specific areas of interest, come prepared to both learn and contribute ideas. At JBP we all wear a lot of hats, so if you are interested in multiple areas or are looking for a general art/business internship, we’d welcome your diverse set of skills and interests. Please know as well that we’re a small, start-up staff and everyone tackles tasks that are often above but sometimes below our respective skill sets and you will be expected to do the same. So be ready to roll up your sleeves if the job calls for it!
