Yahoo! is hiring Design interns for our global product design teams. As a Design intern at Yahoo, you will work on a variety of Yahoo products like Yahoo.com, News, Sports, Mail, Entertainment, Search and mobile, in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment. You will assist our designers as they work closely with product managers, engineers, visual designers, web developers and user researchers to develop and document new product designs and improve existing product functionality for Yahoo!. The Design intern will support the Yahoo! Designers in ideation, prototypes, visual designs, producing and maintaining documentation and will have regular design duties as assistant designers in our mobile, iPad, and web products.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Designing amazing concepts of new products
  • Creating wireframes and write lightweight design specifications
  • Assisting designers to create and test prototypes
  • Assisting designers to create production graphics and graphic specifications for development

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Experience : portfolio demonstrating web visual design, interaction skills and methods
  • Technical Skills : proficiency with Adobe CS, Visio or another prototyping tool is recommended.
  • Adobe Suite, HTML page creation tools, CSS, Javascript, or Flash is a plus.
  • Communication : excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Education : Currently enrolled in a BA/BS, MS degree program.  This is a summer 2011 internship. Preferably in Human Factors/HCI, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Digital Design, or Software Design. Students be prepared to have a portfolio.

Yahoo! is hiring a Design Research intern for our User Experience Research & Design team to help to extend our exploration of experimental, qualitative, inspiration-based research methods. As a Design Research intern at Yahoo you will conduct a research project to help inform teams across a variety of Yahoo’s products, including Communications and Media tools, in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment. You will work with our User Experience Researchers to define an independent project to conduct user-centered research that can inspire and inform designers, product managers, engineers, web developers and other user researchers. The Design Research intern will collaborate on planning, designing and conducting forward-looking, qualitative research that seeks to uncover opportunity areas and shape meaningful experiences on the browser, mobile phone and tablet.


Primary responsibilities include:
–       Assisting with, or conducting independently, an exploratory user experience research project that helps to inform and inspire a rich understanding of key product experiences.
–       Synthesizing insights from qualitative research.
–       Developing presentations and or workshops to share findings with stakeholders
–       Working collaboratively with designers, product, marketing and other researchers
–       Conducting research as part of a collaborative team, seeking feedback and information from other researchers and stakeholders.

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
–       Experience: portfolio or work samples describing a number of completed research projects demonstrating actionable, thoughtful research skills and methods, including in-context interviews, ethnography or participatory design
–       Communication: excellent interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable working as part of a collaborative team, accept constructive feedback
–       Education: Currently pursuing a graduate degree, preferably in Design, Psychology, Anthropology or Human Factors/HCI. This is a summer 2011, paid internship.

Preferable skills/experience include:
–       Product development/design or other work in the technology industry
–       International research experience
–       Adobe Creative Suite

–       Digital prototyping
