JOB: Interaction Designer, ebook project

Interaction Designer wanted for documentary eBook project & storyworld development

Indie documentary project seeks talented interaction designer for assistance in mapping-out requirements for the development of an eBook for iPad and Android tablets.  We’re building a team for a non-conventional documentary –   a more detailed explanation can be found here:

Are you interested in helping shape the future of digital storytelling? So are we. Our vision is of a documentary that’s beyond (but including) a feature-length film, where the process of creating complimentary instantiations of the story (targeted at tablets, print, vinyl, web, etc.) are seen as integral to the whole work – and referenced across manifestations. We have a collection of media artifacts (mentioned in the article link above), and are in the process of creating more (through animation, visualization, re-enactments, etc.)

To do this, we need an interaction designer to help frame the storyworld we’re building. Collaborating with editorial, art, music and video directors – you’ll creatively approach the narrative with innovative ways to craft a compelling and connected set of experiences.

What we’re looking for:

  • Good interaction fundamentals: you should know what a conceptual model, wireframe, and scenario are and how to use them appropriately
  • Proven visual design sensibility
  • Experience with user centered design methods & user research
  • Knowledge (or an interest in researching) the strengths and weaknesses of native apps vs. web apps
  • Knowledge (or an interest in researching) the potential of ePub 3.0 when combined with HTML5
  • A strong ability to prototype (lo-fi and/or hi-fi) whether with paper, Google SketchUp, HTML, Flash, Keynote, or something else/combination thereof
  • Fluent English, good communication skills, and a desire to work in teams

(Notice how we didn’t say “transmedia” once – oops, ok – the “t-word” – right, well – we’d like it to really mean something – beyond ARGs [no disrespect to ARGs, ok?]. Can you help?)

This is not a full-time position, but rather – a cross-platform documentary project that we’ve developed around our day-jobs.  The compensation is modest, but the execution of the vision behind this doc will no doubt be an excellent portfolio item. Plus, we’re decent, smart people who are motivated and easy to work with.

To apply, send an email to info@mediagroove.com with the header “interaction designer.” Include your resume, the dates you are available, and a link to your online portfolio. Be sure your portfolio includes good examples of your entire process from start to finish.
