Sustainability – Program Assistant, Web Development
Title:
Position Summary
The Program Assistant will assist NYU Sustainability staff to:
(1) develop, design and implement projects such as new web pages, forms, tools, videos, & maps for
the Sustainability Advocate Program, Green Grants, Bike Share and other programs
(2) maintain the NYU Sustainability website, www.nyu.edu/sustainability
(3) support related information technology projects, such as the php/MYSQL database of website
functions, contacts, and environmental assessment data ; and the web-based energy feedback /
behavior change tool for the NYUnplugged residence hall conservation competition.
Principal Duties
– Web Development: Code microsites for new initiatives , ongoing site maintenance
– Strategic Planning: Assist with conceptual site development; evaluation of usability, traffic and
other metrics; support plans for new Sustainability Website 2.0 as part of nyu.edu redesign
Necessary Skills and Qualifications
– Intermediate- advanced web design and data management skills, Proficiency in HTML, CSS,
php/ MYSQL, Google API, content/media management systems, etc. (some learning on the job
expected)
– Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously; attention to detail
Desired Skills and Qualifications
– Additional technological proficiencies, incl. other software platforms (SPSS? ArcGIS? Flash? etc.),
programming languages, etc.
– Creativity, self-directedness and critical problem-solving abilities
Pay:
$15/hour
Location:
10 Astor Pl, 7th Floor, in the Office of Sustainability; some work hours possible off-site once established
Time commitment:
10-15 hours/week school year,
more hours ideal in summer
