Title: Research Scientist

Experience and Insights Research (XIL) within the Interaction and Experience
Research Lab, is a team of social scientists in Intel Labs. XIL uses social science
methodologies to understand the currents of global socio-technological change in order to
bring business, market, and product value to Intel. We are seeking an ethnographer with
deep interest and experience in understanding people and everyday lives around the globe.
This is an entry level position and we are looking for candidates who recently completed their
academic degrees.

Individuals with strong research profiles have graduate level training in a social science
discipline such as sociology, economics, psychology, or anthropology.

Qualified candidates…

…have a track record of creative, innovative research thinking, and have or are about to
complete their PhD, or advanced graduate work.

…are inspired to develop research or “design” programs that seek to understand people,
practices and institutions and seek to use this understanding as a basis from which to map
out new, disruptive opportunities for technological innovation.

…believe in the value of interdisciplinary work and collaboration as means for conducting
innovative research.

…have exceptional communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, specifically the
ability to communicate key messages to a broad technical audience, and to work with
business stakeholders to translate ethnographic insights into business value.

…are enthusiastic about working in industry and are passionate about working at Intel

Candidates should have some affinity for theory and theoretical frameworks as is relevant for
their area of expertise. A candidate’s expertise might include: Islam and Islamic societies,
China, media and image culture, on-line communities and the internet, “emerging regions”,
synthetic worlds, gaming and artificial intelligence, sustainability, biotechnology, economics.
Experience with ethnographic research methods and techniques is desirable.

Full-time offers will require relocation to Santa Clara, California or Portland, Oregon.

Responsibilities include:
-Planning (global) research programs
-Executing (global) research programs
-Experimenting with new tools, techniques, methods
-Discussing, sharing, presenting work in progress
-Collaborating with PaPR peers, research colleagues, Intel stakeholders
-Developing materials that represent key facets of analysis, arguments, stories
-Working in Powerpoint (among other media)
-Relationship building with Intel stakeholders
-Showcasing work in conferences, publications, seminars
