Overview:

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc.  is looking for an Interaction designer.

The Interaction Designer position is responsible for researching developing and executing design solutions related to information layout and the user’s experience with the content. The Interaction Designer work on projects includes documenting detailed interaction and functional specifications, maintaining design guidelines and best practices.

Is familiar with reviewing competing products and can recommend design solutions that differentiate Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc. interactive products from those of competitors.

 

Core Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Strong communications skills and ability to collaborate closely with product, engineering and design throughout the product lifecycle
  • Designs the user interaction model for new and existing products
  • Documents design solutions, writes detailed interaction and functional specifications, and develops usable and compelling products
  • Maintains design guidelines, best practices, and standards in order to enhance business efficiencies, search engine optimization and usability performance
  • Analyzes usability of products and features
  • Analyzes web traffic data to understand customers’ patterns and trends and assessing ongoing usability and performance.

 

Required Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

  • Has knowledge of information design principles and well developed skills in creating and documenting business requirements, interface design (wire framing, story boarding, rough layouts, mock-ups, interface elements and icons), functional specifications (technical writing and annotations), user needs (flow charts, scenarios and prototype testing) and information architecture (site maps and navigation) are critical.
  • Exceptional ability to document and defend methodologies
  • Proficient in InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, Visio, Microsoft Word Suite and Excel and have working knowledge of HTML, CSS, Flash, After Effects, and Content Management Systems
  • At least 2 or more years of experience in designing and testing online consumer product interfaces and applications and a clear understanding of online publishing environment
  • Advanced degree or background in one of the following is preferred: human factors, human computer interaction, interaction design, information architecture, or a related field
  • Experience writing and conducting usability testing a plus
  • Experience designing mobile applications a plus
