User Experience Designers
Case Commons is a non-profit startup whose mission is to transform public sector human services through user-centered design & technology. We want to enable workers serving the most vulnerable families and children to be more effective and efficient via new software tools, and we’re pursing this vision through the development of Casebook – the first collaborative, family-centered case management system for child welfare. Case Commons is funded by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, which has spent 20 years pursuing human services system reform, and works in partnership with Pivotal Labs and IDEO.
We’re looking for a talented User Experience Designer to join our product team & help us take our Casebook system from pilot to platform, enabling case workers to use modern social networking technologies to track cases better, see the connections among the various people and agencies, be more effective and efficient, and improve the quality of life for families and children.
What we’re all about:
We’re Visual Thinkers and Storytellers – we collaborate closely with other Designers, Product Managers and Developers at the whiteboard to translate the complexities of state wide policy into meaningful human centered narratives and user flows.
We’re Rapid Iterators – we work with some of the best agile/rails developers in the world in a process that allows us to generate and evaluate new designs quickly. The user feedback loop is immediate and the sprints are week to week.
We’re Innovators – we believe in the power of design as a transformative process. We’re designing a digital platform that is a new way of engaging government in the Child Welfare space, in order to help Social Workers focus on being critical thinkers instead of paper pushers.
We’re Researchers – we believe in the power of user research to inform design at every step of the process, from exploratory research to usability testing.
Candidates should have:
- Examples of Web-based applications strongly preferred
- Robust IA expertise, including development of wireframes and flow diagrams
- Experience with user research and usability testing
- Competency in standard design and prototyping tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Omnigraffle/Visio)
- Familiarity with frontend development technologies & databases
- Strong communications and problem-solving skills.
