[JOB] Mother Jones Web Dev

Do you love code—and the truth? Fantasize about using technology to combat spin, lies, and propaganda? Sick of “content” and hungry for actual information? Then this might be the job for you.

The investigative reporting team at Mother Jones is looking for a kick-ass web developer to help us take our online journalism to the next level.

MotherJones.com has seen record increases in traffic in 2011, doubling our page views. Users love us for providing original, hard-hitting investigative reporting that doesn’t feel like homework and occasionally makes you laugh out loud. We love the possibilities of the digital environment for interactive storytelling (our user-powered map of the Occupy movement was one of the first to show the growth of the phenomenon) and are making a major push to expand in this area. The new developer will work closely with the rest of the tech team to develop interactive projects, data visualizations, and other new features.

Requirements:
Significant programming experience in a modern programming language
Solid knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
Experience with integrating code with a content management system

Nice-to-haves:
Experience with the Drupal CMS
PHP programming experience
Mobile web/app development experience

We are looking for someone to work full time out of our downtown San Francisco office, located two blocks from the Montgomery Street BART/Muni station. Mother Jones has a great benefits program that includes paid health, dental, and vision coverage.

To apply, please send a résumé and cover letter to jobs at motherjones dot com with “Web Developer” in the subject line. No calls, please.
