Operations Tools Developer
The Operations Tools Developer will create and maintain monitoring, alerting, incident tracking, system provisioning and configuration and customer system and inventory management tools for the Technical Services function within the Operations group. Additionally, this role is chartered to streamline operational processes with tools and scripts. Since understanding key metrics and data is key to fully understanding the service and business, this role will also create customized reports and perform data analysis for our customers, both internal and external. As part of the Operations group, the Operations Tools Developer will be a vital part of keeping our productions operations and customer deployments running smoothly. This senior level engineer will be facile in creating systems designs, operational procedures and automation scripts for customer deployments and internal tools.
Job Responsibilities
Maintain and customize Incident and Change Management System
Maintain and customize distributed Nagios/cacti monitoring and alert system
Create scripts to automate and manage data movement and archiving
Develop scripts and processes for more effective deployment of AVN systems
Maintain tools, instrumentation, monitoring, and scripts in operational state
Work with Data Center Operations team to ensure comprehensive monitoring of AVN data center
Work with Engineering and Operations teams to gather requirements, design, and implement tools for system deployment, provisioning and configuration – both in house and in the field
Gather and analyze systems data to provide insight into performance, utilization, and capacity
Create custom reports and tools for data consumption
Evaluate and recommend tools to improve operational efficiency
Required Qualifications
BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
3-5 years of software engineering experience with an emphasis in operations tools development
Java development experience and expertise in most or all of the common scripting languages such as Python, PHP, Perl, and Ruby
Experience with common monitoring tools (e.g. Nagios, cacti) protocols (e.g. SNMP)
Experience with incident management tools (e.g. Salesforce, Remedy, Cherwell)
Experience with modern configuration management tools (e.g. Puppet)
Experience with database (MySQL preferred) programming
Excellent organization skills, project tracking abilities, communications skills.
Proven ability to quickly learn and implement unfamiliar technologies.
Thorough understanding of key systems performance indices and reporting requirements
Familiarity with LAMP based web components and architecture (e.g. HTTP, HTML, CSS, SSL)
Excellent troubleshooting skills, a demonstrated critical thinker
Linux/Window OS experience
