Position Summary
The Developer will assist NYU Sustainability staff and the Sustainability Task Force to:
- Develop, design & implement interactive technology projects such as new web pages, forms, tools, videos, & maps for the Sustainability Advocates, Green Grants, Bike Share & other programs
- Maintain the NYU Sustainability website, www.nyu.edu/sustainability
- Support related information technology projects, such as the php/MYSQL database of website functions, contacts, and environmental assessment data ; and the web-based energy feedback / behavior change tool for the NYUnplugged residence hall conservation competition
- Develop, design, implement and maintain new and existing graphics and visual materials, such as NYU Sustainability posters, flyers, reports, PDFs, stickers, logo files, and more
Principal Duties
– Program Coordination: Draft original web content and synthesize other materials to update and maintain the NYU Sustainability site; create a calendar of web projects and priorities; perform regular maintenance and troubleshooting to ensure that the website functions optimally.
– Project Management: Track progress and set goals for web projects; scope user needs; respond to client requests in a timely fashion; manage both aesthetic and technical site design elements
– Strategic Planning: Assist with conceptual site development; evaluate usability, traffic and other metrics; support plans for new Sustainability Website 2.0 as part of nyu.edu redesign
– Logistical Support: Collaborate on graphic and website design; address user issues, etc.
– Communications: Code HTML emails direct, print, press materials and web content; address queries about website functions and content; support New Media and new social networking content and strategy for NYU Sustainability.
Necessary Skills and Qualifications
– Advanced computer skills, incl. web research, productivity and presentation software, etc.
– Advanced web development and data management skills, incl. but not limited to HTML, CSS, php/MYSQL, Google API, content/media management systems, etc.
– Excellent interpersonal and communications skills; strong clerical and organizational skills
– Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously; attention to detail
– Demonstrated experience, interest, or other commitment to environmental issues
– Creativity, self-directedness, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
Desired Skills and Qualifications
– Additional technological proficiencies, including other software platforms (SPSS? ArcGIS? Flash? etc.), programming languages, etc.
– Experience supervising part-time staff or volunteers
Pay: Time commitment:
$20/ hour 10-20 hours/week school year,
25-35 available in summer
Location: 10 Astor Pl, 7th Floor, in the Office of Sustainability
some work hours may be possible off-site once established
