Founded nearly 20 years ago by musician and activist, Peter Gabriel, WITNESS partners with NGOs, community groups, and grassroots organizations around the globe.
Description:
The Focus for Change Event intern will work closely with the External Relations Associate and WITNESS’ event team to help produce WITNESS’ 8th annual Focus for Change benefit.
Tasks will include:
• Conducting research and helping with outreach to solicit in-kind and auction donations
• Assisting with coordinating of mass mailings and solicitations (i.e. outreach letters, invitations, thank you letters)
• Assisting with talent logistics (hotel, travel arrangements, etc.)
• Registering the event on New York City benefit and social calendars
• Drafting and preparing materials for Host Committee correspondence and other external communications
• Supporting the Event Team in preparing event signage and collecting content/materials for the event’s printed program
• Conducting research on benefit attendees
• Running errands and providing key administrative support as needed
• Working on-site during the event in the fall of 2012, including volunteer organization and door registration.
Qualifications:
Potential interns are preferably graduate students or others with relevant experience. Undergraduates with relevant experience will be considered. We look for a focus in studies on development or communications with an interest in human rights and international relations Candidates should have:
• Outstanding oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently, as well as to multitask effectively
• As celebrity talent and key donors are involved, must have professional air
• Event planning and previous non-profit experience preferred
• Familiarity with MS Office applications a must (especially Word and Excel)
• Ability to work in fast-paced environment and hectic circumstances
• Superb attention to detail
• Sense of humor and flexibility
General Information
We require a minimum of three months commitment, for 16-20 hours a week. Ideally, the Intern will serve in the Fall Semester as well. Fellowships are unpaid. Our offices are located in Brooklyn, NY, convenient to the Atlantic Terminal (2, 3, 4, 5, B, D, Q, N and R trains) and C (Lafayette) and G (Fulton) trains.
