[JOB] User Experience Designer – Group Commerce

Position:  User Experience Designer

Location:  New York

Group Commerce Overview:

Group Commerce is the market-leading platform for publishers who want to succeed in e-commerce. Our company serves the three groups that make an eCommerce program work: the consumer, the publisher, and the merchant.

We have the platform. Our technology has been designed to serve the unique needs of brands and media companies from the ground up. It’s an enterprise-grade platform that serves as a true command center for a publisher’s eCommerce program; there’s nothing else like it out there.

We match our platform with best-in-class services. We know exactly what it takes to succeed. Through our professional services, we’re the only company that provides all of the necessary know-how to help publishers win in eCommerce (e.g. merchandising strategy, merchant sourcing, payment processing, customer service, etc.).

Founded in 2010, Group Commerce is backed by Spark Capital, Carmel Ventures, Lerer Ventures, and Bob Pittman. Our clients include Boston.com, CBS Local, DailyCandy, Meredith Corporation, the New York Times, Thrillist, Telegraph Media Group and many more.

Position Scope:

You’ll be a key member of our Product Team, improving usability throughout our company’s products and services.

You will be solving unique design challenges as we scale our eCommerce platform’s web interfaces across a content network accessed by millions of people. You will help design products, backed by your UX vision and must be comfortable communicating that vision internally and to clients.

As a candidate, you must have facility in crafting experiences that meet the needs of both consumers and commercial partners. You will collect and synthesize user and market data to inform design decisions. You are equal parts usability professional, product-thinker, and interaction designer. You realize that the ideal first release of a product is one that may not include all the features the business wants but works better than the audience expects. You care deeply about detail while keeping the big picture in mind.

This position will work closely with business owners and developers to articulate product vision, wireframe concepts, diagram workflow, shape informational hierarchies, design interaction models, and shepherd products through design and development.

Experience is great, but expertise is paramount.

At Group Commerce, things move fast – if you’re competitive, want to work with smart, creative, energetic people and possess the initiative, confidence and good judgment to make independent decisions every day – then you’re probably a perfect addition to our burgeoning Product Management Team.

Responsibilities:

•Wireframe new product concepts, refining and validating them with front- and back-end developers.
•Implement tools and processes to gather usage data, and synthesize data to make informed decisions.

Design and implement production workflows to support new products. This involves driving user
acceptance from business owners based on their needs.

Oversee the consistent definition, implementation, and evolution of smart UX patterns and interaction
models.

Play a flexible role across our products: sometimes as primary UX designer on your own project,
sometimes as UX consultant to others.

Stay current with advancements in interactive technology and competitive or complementary products, and advocate for the appropriate application of those advancements in our own products.

Identify and create opportunities for user feedback in the development of new and existing features.

Skills/Requirements:

5+ years of experience
Great design aesthetic
Ability to manage UX-specific production designs, including concept sketches, rough wireframes or
flows, visual design comps, rapid prototyping/demos, and mood boards and assist in the creation of
associated mitigation plans.
Experience in Photoshop, Illustrator, and wireframe software such as OmniGraffle
Working knowledge of HTML and CSS to build prototypes a BIG plus
Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Great to have:

Mobile and other rich internet application design experience
Understanding of both consumer and business-to-business products
