Connecting Light is a commission art project for the London Olympics 2012. It involves a landscape installation, using hundreds of tethered weather balloons approximately 6ft in diameter and lit by internal LED lights, spans over 73 miles along the Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site. The installation will be visible in the evening of August 31 and Sep 1, and accessible to visitors at several locations.
To participate in the project, you can simply submit a message on our website. The installation will become a line of pulsating colours as all the incoming messages are sent along the Wall. Along the site, Each tethered balloon is a networked object and has intelligence embedded to communicate with outside world and between each other.
About you:
The position requires a very senior level creative talent, with a proven ability in the areas of narrative/conceptual, and graphic/aesthetic.
Building and crafting large complex systems and experiences from dynamic interfaces to our project website. With master-level understanding of graphic design, typography and layout and how it extends through the digital realm and its counterparts.
Key Responsibilities/
Working with one other backend developer, one iphone developer in the group of 3 – 5 people.
Creates the visual design for this project.
Responsible for accomplishing and maintaining the quality of design throughout all phases of the project
Works with the artists to ensure that various aspects of design work meet both YesYesNo and Olympic standard.
Executes top quality design work.
Pre-Requisites:
An in-depth understanding of HTML, capabilities of web browsers, Photoshop, Illustrator
Some knowledge of C++, Java, CSS, as well as visual/interactive/motion design trends
Solid foundation in typography, layout, and general design
Very high attention to detail
Ability to function independently and in a team environment
Qualifications:
6-8 Years of Experience design experience in web, advertising and typography
Significant experience in Graphic Design
An exceptional on-line portfolio showcasing innovative concepts and creative design solutions.
