A blurb about my new spot – We’re looking to fundamentally change the way direct-sales (think: Avon, Mary Kay) is done by building killer mobile/social/web apps for young women to sell costume jewelry to their networks. The philosophy is to have fewer sales-folk than most of the companies like this (unlike our nearest competition, Stella & Dot) and to give them tools that truly help them learn to run businesses. We could easily expand into other verticals (beauty, accessories) and right now the margins are crazy-high. Technologically, we’re using Spree 1 as a platform base, but due to the very specific nature of direct sales (lots of commissions and inputs) there’s a ton of custom refactoring/custom gem development going on. The reason I joined the product team is that the problems we’re looking to solve are infinitely more complex than the average e-commerce startup. Our Product/Tech Founder is a good friend and the founder/former GM of Gilt Taste (as well as the first PM at Gilt, and the one that led development of its fairly groundbreaking mobile apps).
