Location: Evanston, IL

The Office of STEM Education Partnerships (OSEP) seeks a highly motivated and energetic individual who is

interested in working on OSEP’s informal STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts/design, and math) education

program called FUSE (www.fusestudio.net/about). The Digital Media Intern will work alongside the FUSE Team to

test and edit FUSE Challenges, which are the core educational activities of the FUSE program. Each Challenge is

comprised of a series of increasingly complex levels, each of which is carefully scaffolded to teach a set of skills or

concepts. Specifically, the Digital Media Intern will be responsible for reviewing challenge content and incorporating

feedback from teens to produce polished, engaging challenges that appeal to a broad range of teen interests. This

position will require some writing but will primarily consist of creating and editing short video tutorials.

This is a temporary, part-time position requiring 20-30 hours per week with the potential to become a full-time position

pending funding availability and performance.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Works collaboratively with the FUSE team

• Creates video and photo tutorials to teach skills necessary for successful challenge completion

• Publishes revised challenges to FUSE website

• Performs related duties as required or assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree in a STEAM content area and/or education or the equivalent combination of education and

experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired

• Experience using common media creation and publishing tools (e.g., iMovie, Google SketchUp, Illustrator,

and/or open-source equivalents) to create and publish web content (videos, blogs, basic graphic designs, 3D

models) and ability to teach those tools to teens

• Excellent team, verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience creating media for teen audiences

• Experience in working with teens in out-of-school settings, particularly in STEAM fields (e.g., museum or

library programming, after school programs such as science clubs, computer clubs, etc)

• Familiarity with the maker community philosophy and approach (e.g., makerspace, hackerspace, FabLab,

MakerBots, DIY, etc.)

• Creative thinker in utilizing innovative strategies to achieve project and learning goals

Compensation:

This fellowship is a paid position with a competitive hourly rate.
