Lead Flash Developer/Animator

Description

Seeking a self-driven and passionate individual determined to impact hundreds of millions of people globally. We are in search of a technical self-starter who has strong programming and optimization skills. Candidates must be extremely detail-oriented and thrive on streamlining processes and solving problems related to the development of our animated software. This role will be responsible for taking our existing software and building/refining our core animated tutorial through which more than 50 subsequent versions will be developed. This role will be instrumental in providing support to prepare our software for release into foreign and domestic markets, for use across more than 70 countries.

TeachAIDS is a young, fast-paced, and rapidly-expanding nonprofit. This full-time position offers the opportunity to contribute greatly to help build systems integral to the organization’s growth. The position is at the TeachAIDS headquarters in Palo Alto, next to Stanford University.

The Company

Spun out of Stanford University in 2009, TeachAIDS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit social venture that creates breakthrough software to solve persistent problems in HIV prevention around the world. Used in 70+ countries, with 250+ distribution partners, TeachAIDS provides the most effective HIV education – all for free under a Creative Commons License. The research and innovation behind TeachAIDS is applicable to many other contexts and its long-term mission is to provide the most effective public health education to every country in the world. TeachAIDS was recognized as an innovation that would “change the world” by MIT Technology Review in 2011, and was a winner of the Microsoft Education Award and one of 12 global laureates at The Tech Awards in 2012. Based in Palo Alto, California, TeachAIDS is supported by Yahoo!, Google, UNICEF, Barclays, Covington & Burling, Cigna, and many governments and foundations around the world.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

* Develop base animation through timeline manipulation and coding in ActionScript 3.0, using previous iterations of the animation

* Work with the Product Manager and Language Experts to develop culturally appropriate extensions of base version

* Create scriptable composite animations – taking advantage of existing digital assets when possible

* Optimize animations for a variety of delivery channels (download, CD-ROM, DVD, etc.)

Required Qualifications

* Expert knowledge of ActionScript 3.0, Adobe Flash Builder/Professional, Illustrator and Photoshop

* Expert in vector graphics development and manipulation using Illustrator and Photoshop

* Excellent project management skills

* Ability to work independently as well as in a team, and deliver on a deadline

* Outstanding attention to both design and technical details

* US work authorization

Preferred Qualifications

* Outstanding design sense and artistic ability

* Experience developing high-quality 2D animations

* Experience optimizing Flash animations for different platforms

* 2+ years full-time experience
