[INTERN] User Experience Design / User Experience Prototyping, Intel Labs (Summer)

Intel Labs is currently seeking summer interns for the Interaction & Experience Research (IXR) Group. See the below descriptions for roles available and qualifications. We are targeting master’s or PhD candidates to form a collaborative experience prototyping team.
Please send submissions directly to Victoria Fang (victoria.fang@intel.com) with the subject “Intern Application”.
User Experience Design Intern  707692

Description

The Interaction & Experience Research (IXR) group in Intel Labs is currently accepting applications for a User Experience Design intern who is currently enrolled a master’s or PhD program and matriculating toward a degree. The successful candidate will be joining a world-class team of industry researchers with a wide variety of disciplinary backgrounds, including: social scientists, design researchers, interaction designers, human factors engineers, strategic planners, technology innovators, hardware engineers, and computer scientists. The Intel Labs intern will work with a collaborative team to design and rapidly prototype (hack) proposed user experiences for the team to evaluate and in order to further the Lab’s research agenda.

This is a full-time, paid position. The length of the internship is 12 weeks over the summer; the details of start- and end-dates will be coordinated with other interns working on the same program. Candidates must be willing to relocate to the Santa Clara, California (or, where applicable, to Hillsboro/Portland, Oregon) area for the duration of the internship. Relocation assistance is available through Intel.

Responsibilities
Job responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:
— Designing for – and hands-on, rapid development of – prototypes that explore future technology experiences
— Extensive collaboration with design and research team members to synthesize user research, and develop/visualize product concepts, interaction schemes, and user experiences
— Contributing to the development of a user experience strategy for emerging technologies, positioning projects within the context of Intel’s business, industry/ecosystem developments, and emerging consumer behaviors

The ideal candidate will also demonstrate the following:
— Experience working on collaborative team projects in interaction design, information architecture, and/or design for digital experiences
— Experience with iterative prototyping within a design process
— Interest in convergent digital-physical interfaces

— Current enrollment in a master’s or PhD program in Interaction Design (HCI), Industrial Design, Digital Media, Human Factors, Applied Arts or related discipline
— 1+ years demonstrated practical experience using software prototyping tools (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign/OmniGraffle/Axure/Visio)

Preferred Qualifications
— 1+ years demonstrated practical experience with interactive prototyping tools such as Arduino, Processing, OpenFrameworks
