For more than 92 years, the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation (ACLU), has been at the forefront of virtually every major battle for civil liberties and equal justice in this country.  Principled and nonpartisan, the ACLU has offices in all 50 states, Washington, DC and Puerto Rico, and brings together the country’s largest team of public interest lawyers, lobbyists, communication strategists, and members and activists in the advancement of equality, fairness, and freedom, especially for the most vulnerable in our society.

 

The Communications Department is responsible for promoting the ACLU’s mission, its brand and its programs through the media, multi-faceted campaigns, digital communications, publications and events. The Communications Department’s Digital/Multimedia Communications program seeks graphic design and multimedia interns for the fall of 2013.

 

INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

 

The Graphic Design Internship offers the opportunity to experience the breadth of the ACLU’s work and to interact with staff from different programs on a range of projects. Interns can expect to work on a variety of branding and key issue projects including the production of printed materials for a variety of purposes as well as graphics for the ACLU web site(s), multimedia and social media channels.

 

The Fall Digital Communications Design Internship is part-time and requires a time commitment of 12-16 hours per week.  Because this is an unpaid internship, students are highly encouraged to seek outside funding.  Arrangements may also be made with the student’s school for a work/study stipend or course credit.

 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Under the supervision of Director of Digital Communications, interns will gain experience by working on:

 

•      Website design.

•      Social media promotional design.

•      Multimedia design support and production.

•      Creative process coordination.

•      Other duties as assigned.

 

DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

•      Digital design and/or print experience.

•      Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and industry standard design programs.

•      Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Final Cut and Illustrator.

•      The ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced working environment.

•      Commitment to civil liberties.
