Web Application Developer

Our team at NBCUniversal is building an app Analysts will use to call the next Election.

This is a great opportunity for the right person.

We are looking for a Web developer with Ruby and JavaScript skills who will develop highly interactive Ajax-based web applications and web-based data visualization components as part of a project to build a system to allow journalists to monitor election returns, exit polls, and support news reporting on election night.

The web developer will be a key member of our application development team.

You will be responsible for implementing agile user stories as software and HTML templates with complete unit tests, suggesting solutions to user interface requirements, writing source code documentation, finding and correcting software errors, writing design and technical documents, configuring web servers and deploying software.

–  Excellent Ruby development skills (including 1.9 versions)

–  Ruby on Rails 3 (Sinatra and HAML / SASS experience also desirable)

–  Contemporary HTML, CSS, XML, and JSON

– Excellent JavaScript skills, including jQuery and Backbone libraries

–  RESTful Web Service concepts

–  Object-Oriented design concepts applied to web application architecture

–  TCP and HTTP networking concepts

–  Common Linux commands and basic server configuration

–  Agile Methods and unit testing

–  Clean, easy to use, web user interface design

–  A sense of humor

 

This is a 6-month contract position with an option to extend.
